I like that A & W car, too.   I have seen these cars before (somewhere) but I don't think they ever ran on the line I model.   I think the MB or IC car might work for me, but I really like the schemes on the combo door version better so I might wait.

Yes, this has always been an expensive hobby.  I think the "high end" box cars are a "one road, one number" purchase for me.   Versus, wanting multiple numbers of a few schemes of the MDC cars at one point.  At the point I model there weren't really long strings of identical boxcars anyway so having a bunch of unique cars works out well.  So one FVM here, one Exactrail there, one Athearn, et al.   I would much rather pay a little more for a single, higher quality car versus 2 MTL-equipped MDC cars, at this point.   I just don't need a bunch more boxcars, and I will just replace an older foobie with the newer cars to keep my roster in check.

I think another modern boxcar is really great, but how about the ER depressed center flat our HO friends are getting?  I appreciate all the great things we are granted by the manufacturers, but if you look at HO offerings I still feel like the red-headed stepchild.  We still only get the crumbs....... at best we are piggy-backed (excuse the pun) on the HO releases since with CAD it is easy to shrink the designs down to 1/160th.  Also have you noticed our models cost almost the same as the HO stuff?

I am not just ripping ER, all the manufacturers are guilty. Yes I know that HO kicks N scale's butt in sales and market is where the $ is.

That is the end of my rant.

Whenever the date the ICC changed the per diem rules to promote building new boxcar, I think it was around 1977, but don't hold me too that. Before that, there was a serious boxcar shortage for General Service Boxcars, because the old per diem rates had made it not profitable to buy new ones or even repair old ones. Then the ICC decided to give them a reason too buy new boxcars buy changing the per diem rules and rates and that did it. Everybody got into the act and not just railroads. One could say it led to Boxcar owned shortlines.

For those that care about the fine print.....  On the ATW Scott Paper car, the data to the left of the door says that the date of the New Car is 1-80.

I noticed that the car is tagged "1979 design" on the ER site.

We have a depressed center car from MTL. They are so seldomly seen on the prototype I don't really think we need a new one at this point.

The waffle car on the otherhand, well that is needed. I could use a dozen. I find the prototypes ER chooses to be rather odd sometimes. I really hope they produce some unique cars in the future and run lots more paint schemes on the stuff they have already produced.

This is a welcome addition to the growing list of N Scale freight cars.  It would be nice to see models of additional Evans designs and rebuilt cars in the fullness of time.

I like flatcars, what can I say.  I like boxcars too..  but I have quite a few of them, and I can't show off all the cool loads I make inside a boxcar....... ;D

Don't forget that GHQ has Depressed Flats also...two per kit if I recall correctly.

As for box cars, there are still a hundred variations that could be done (and that's just pre 68').

If we count kits, N Scale Kits had a half dozen or so in different variations.
