Weekend Update 1/23/11

Finished the loading Platform.

I rebuilt the peninsula that will now house the staging loops and I started removing the top section of my benchwork. I had planned a valence but I'm realizing it was too short. After looking at others, I'm thinking I don't really need it and this will also save me from buying more lighting than I really need,

Got bored with The Steelers and Jets and wanted to test a small section
of the new HCD layout with a different kind of scenery technique. First
paint the area with the earth color, in this case "desert sand". Sprinkle
on sifted dirt, let it dry, shop vac and then paint it again. It's not bad.
It's going to need different shades and once the vegetation is applied
it won't look too bad. I got the idea, due to the fact N scale is too small
to apply the different dirt, soil, sand and related. I wanted to see what
painting strained dirt or sand looked like:



UP-DATE This ended up drying like small grit sandpaper, real un-even
and with some washes is going to look good - pics when it dries completely.

Got tired of scratch building structures and went back and did some scenery work tonight. Added fence posts around an entire field and started working at texturing large fields of static grass a bit more. Also planted more bushes, fixed a few broken things (damn modules are always getting abused) and generally made a mess. I also added a new dirt road surface to a bridge crossing on one of the curve modules which meant sifting "fine" dirt down to something even finer. So far so good. I only snapped one photo right now (and it is more of a fun shot than anything else) as I need to hit the bed for some shut eye...

Not much here this week. I did some more work on some fire engines. I also got an Etch Mate 3C from Mission Models. I have been practicing on MLE trailer hitches.

Outstanding.  If you could have cropped out the fascia, it would be hard to distinguish from a live scene.

I froze my a$$, and other assorted parts, off while Railfanning the NS Pittsburgh Line between Lewistown and Cassandra with the CRHS crew. We also had a very productive board meeting where we discussed lots of "really important stuff". 2011 should be a great year.
