Has anyone tried the leaf flakes on their Supertrees? They seem a little large for most prototype species. Exept for perhaps Sycamores. I thought about maybe grinding and sifting them a little bit smaller, but I just left that on the list of things to......oh look! Something shiny!!!

I've used them Dan and you hit the nail on the head... They're too big. 

I use a smattering of them on a few trees.  Any more than that and the tree looks weird to me for N-scale.

It's the Heki Microturf.  Even though they call it Microturf, it's actually a little bulkier than the most fine grades of turf available from folks like Woodland Scenics and Scenic Express. 

There are two problems with SuperTrees IMO.  One is that the trunk is skinny.   The other is that the foliage cover is just too thin (or light) if you go with a fine grade of turf.   The Heki Microturf gives a SuperTree a slightly more dense look.

The other way to combat that problem is to cover the tree with a course green turf first, sort of like a base color.  And then apply your fine grade of turf, like Woodland Scenics fine grass blend.

Love these photos  great layout the track side perspective really brings out just how realistic your layout is. Thanks also for including a link to the older thread on trees man that shot of the under brush on the Modutrak module is so real looking it is incredible. I was always wondering how one could accomplish the weeds and brush along the mainline and I believe I definitely found the technique to use!!

...and since road signs were mentioned, I asked Lee to hook me up with his source.  I also made some of my own with images from Wikipedia of US and PA route signs I needed.  What I was calling PA Route 147 is in fact PA Route 45 through Spruce Creek.  Now drivers have no shortage of warnings that they're about to duck under one of those PRR stone bridges as you do on the real PA 45:



Driving up into Lewistown you see these signs indicating the railroad crossing and junction with US 522:

Behind the camera is the West US 22 sign, but signs in this view include new red (post-1954) stop signs, the JCT US 522 sign, and a pair of classic oval PRR Stop, Look, and Listen signs that were already there:

The new signs are a really nice touch.  But, I'm wondering if using a black Sharpie or Magic Marker against the side of the signs would help hide the styrene's thickness and color on the edges of the signs.  Black may be best to match the borders around the edges of most of the road signs.
