There is something strange going on in that photo. There are typical wide-angle distortions (look at the bell), but no pin-cushioning. I suspect it was corrected afterwards; there are odd signs of some kind of manipulation along the very left edge--note the pieces of telephone pole floating in the air, and blotches of gravel by the rails.

Too much S&H tool in processing... the halo along the top of the locomotive is really noticeable.
