Cab Signal Boxes (NS, RDG, CR, CSX)

Hay Brothers is proud to announce our first locomotive detail part in resin. Cab Signal Boxes for NS (Molded in Black), CR (Blue), RDG (Creme), CSX (Yellow). 3 per pack @ $3.00 retail.

This box was also used on some UP locomotives (IE SD45 RC Unit located on left side of locomotive, just behind the cab/electrical cabinet filter). Order the CSX version for this...

Pictures will be posted on the website and parts will be available Wednesday 09/01/2010

Excellent!  I'll be ordering some as soon as they are available.

Black would also work for Pennsylvania and Penn Central.  Some inherited Conrail units (ex-Reading for example) got aluminum-colored "unpainted" boxes for patch-stencilled units in the early years.

This is indeed great news!  In addition to the colors listed, I've seen a number of CR units with unpainted boxes that appear to be galvanized metal.

Conrail put Cab Sgnals in alot of ex-pred units. I think you will find that there would be ex- LV, EL, CNJ, RDG and PC (PRR & NYC). The reason I say this is that the entire Pittsburgh Line had Cab Signals and I have seen and have Pictures of these units leading. I have run some of the ex- LV, RDG, CNJ, EL and PC units and they where cab signal equipped. The old Alcos where not though thats why they were sent to Mingo Junction and stayed in the New York area. I would have to dig my old pictures out to see what color they were but this is good news. Hay Bros dose a very good job on there products and I will need a few of these.

David is right, they put them on GE,s LV U23-B's had them for sure as I have pic's of these.

Here are some I know had CAB's.
LV, GP-38, U23-B
CNJ, SD-35, SD-40
RDG, GP-30, GP-35, GP-40-2, SD-45
EL, GP-35, SD-45, SD-45-2, SDP-45, E-8
PC, almost all units had them.

If anyone seen any units leading on the Pittsburgh Line from Harrisburg to Pittsburgh the unit would had to have cab signals to be in the lead. The only exception would have been if it was in work train service. This is why still today you you will never seen foriegn roads in the lead on the Pittsburgh Line ( except CSX units that are equipped). Most if not all of the new CSX units are equipped with cab signals. Of course all ex CR units that CSX would be too.

It's always good to hear about new detail parts. 

What do these boxes do on the prototype?  I gather they interact with trackside equipment somehow.

I'm definately in for a few.  Could you consider doing a watchman's heater (also called a cab heater) that a lot of railroads used on switcher and other units. I'm not an expert but seems like an easy thing to do.
