Carl,
I generally get over there about once every 3 months - usually when the wife is traveling.

driving into work today around 11am I crossed the steel bridge on 895N in Baltimore on the approach to the tunnel.  I peered out to my right, as I do every time I cross the bridge and look what I saw!

does it mean anything that I actually thought of Ed and thought maybe I should grab a pic of that?  Does it mean anything that I got excited to "find" a "Blue Beast"?

Well, I knew I was in trouble when I veered off the EZ-Pass lanes and took the Childs St. exit and raced over to Curtis Bay engine shops for photographic evidence of my find.  I knew at that point i am bound to be ASSimilated

I couldn't have timed it better.

So tell me... do i get points?

On my way to Salisbury, NC for the last day of my trip to southern North Carolina, I ran into this nice Aberdeen, Carolina, & Western train sitting outside of Aberdeen by the golf course.

1) CSX C40-8W No. 7801 sits idle with an Aberdeen, Carolina, & Western manifest freight train outside Aberdeen, North Carolina on 27 June 2010.

2) Aberdeen, Carolina & Western Railroad GP40-2LW No. 9538 is the second locomotive of an idle Aberdeen, Carolina, & Western manifest freight train outside of Aberdeen, North Carolina on 27 June 2010.

3) Aberdeen, Carolina & Western Railroad GP40-2LW No. 9582 is the third locomotive of an idle Aberdeen, Carolina, & Western manifest freight train outside of Aberdeen, North Carolina on 27 June 2010.

4) Aberdeen, Carolina & Western Railroad GP40-2LW No. 9624 is the fourth locomotive of an idle Aberdeen, Carolina, & Western manifest freight train outside of Aberdeen, North Carolina on 27 June 2010.

5) Aberdeen, Carolina & Western Railroad GP40-2LW No. 9556 is the fifth locomotive of an idle Aberdeen, Carolina, & Western manifest freight train outside of Aberdeen, North Carolina on 27 June 2010.

Check out my website (listed under the web tag) for railfanning pictures from 32 states, D.C., and Ontario. Current locomotive count: 5772!

I went down to Fayetteville, NC.

First off, Paging Dr. Vollmer:

When in Fayetteville I have two main train watching spots, the old ACL station on the CSX main, and a coffee shop on Hay St. within site of the old NS (still NS, but it used to be original NS) line by Ray St.  Yesterday morning I was sitting outside the coffee shop, chatting with Lee when I heard a horn in the direction of the CSX main.  I quickly threw my junk in the truck and caught a local coming into the yard.  It dropped two cars in the CSX part of the yard for interchange with Aberdeen and Rockfish, dropped off a Southern waffle side on the NS interchange, picked up an Atlantic and Western box and a tank car, and shoved them back towards the CSX main yard off of Ramsey St.  At the junction with the old Cape Fear and Yadkin Valley, it stopped for another local coming in from the northwest to allow it to pass.

Next week I'll have some shots of NS, Clinton Terminal, and maybe some more CSX sitting in the yard.  The following week I will post CSX main action.

Iain,

Thanks so much for the CSX yard pics! I'm modeling a branchline and need to put in a small moderately used interchange yard. I love how you can see various details within the yard tracks (i.e. transition rail size joint bars). Keep up the picture posts!
