Shameless Self Promotion - Door Layout Bonanza

My new job is to open and run a "ReStore" operation for our local Habitat for Humanity affiliate.  Basically it's a clearinghouse for second hand and donated building supplies that are offered at a significant discount to raise money to build Habitat houses.  In the past week, I've visited four of these stores, and all of them are awash in flush door slabs.  Many with holes drilled, and scratches and dents.

Most for $5 a piece or less.

Go find your local ReStore, and let's get a little demand going to match up with that supply!

You can thank me later.

First off, congratulations on gaining employment.  I can't imagine how stressful it must be to not know how you're going to pay expenses and provide for your family.

Now, your new job.  Talk about the perfect fit.  It's right in your wheelhouse.  You're the king of recycling building materials.  Was the Laurel Valley backshop (a/k/a the garage) the clincher for your employers when they hired you?  ;D

Congrats again, Lee. It does indeed sound like a perfect fit. And there's a ReStore about four blocks from where I live. I shall check them out!

505 Kane Street.  Get off 95 at Eastern Avenue, go west one block and turn left.  It's right before the Canton RR crossing.  There's another one in Pasadena, 8101 Ft. Smallwood Road.  Both had flush doors coming out their ears.

The solid core ones are a little more expensive, but make excellent work bench surfaces...  If you are into furnace filter material for trees, they usually have them by the case.  I think I saw them at 25 cents a piece.

You might also find a good beer fridge and a microwave while you're there, too!

Kane Street, right below Eastern Avenue, across from Home Depot. I took a bunch of material there when I closed the business last year.

I met the manager from the Salt Lake store at the conference.  Also stores in western Montana, Idaho and eastern Washington.

In my neck of the woods, Habitat has stiff competition:

Your goal should be to make the Easton Store At LEAST this big.

Oh, and did I mention it's about 100 feet from the CSX mainline?

We don't have any near North East PA. Closest one is in Branchville, NJ (quite a ride.)

Of course, we do have HFH here in Monroe County, but no ReStore. Plenty of empty commercial buildings here available now though because when the economy collapsed, all the Metro NY commuters who lived out here, went into foreclosure and left back for NY, and thus many local businesses collapsed with the STILL rising (and crushing tide) of foreclosures.

Would dovetail nicely with my classes as I study for my pastorate.

Cool job, good luck with it. Who knows, maybe he'll bend an ear and someone higher up the chain of command will look our way, plant a store, and give me a job...  ;)

Joe.

Talk to the folks at your local HFH Affiliate...  Go on line and read about it, and see if they have the resources to start up!
