Weekend Update 4/25/2010

got a little moddeling done this weekend, I foobied 2 steamers into NP, the newly aquired B-mann 2-6-6-2 got the number boards and cab numbers done, the tender has to wait for a swap. Also I did my B-mann lt. mountain also. the Mt. started life as an SP unit. but I resolved that issue. the cab number font was close enough, so I kept it, and the number boards. I know NP didn't have Mountains of any kind, so it is classifyed as a "W-6" witch would have technicly been a mikado. but this is my world. Also the NP never had 2-6-6-2's of this size, the 4 they had were alot smaller and earlier, none the less, it is decaled as a Z-1. but the road number is 3103, the last real Z-1 being 3102, again. it is my world, dangit.

Built and installed two more turnouts at the proviso engine facilities.  I've now completed 105 turnouts with only 7 more to go.

My six and a half year old little engineer and I did some railfanning/planefanning this afternoon....

First to the CP Havelock yards - almost empty except for a hand full of hoppers; a few old Angus shops vans, used for storage, and some goodies.....





Our favorite SOO van was back.... looking a bit worse for wear.....

The winter's Service equipment is due to be stored again so both the Sub's plow and Jordan were on tracks 1 & 2 ready for a shunt.....







The plow caught a real big one this time.....



The equipment was sitting on the first two tracks, right beside the former CPR station; now a nice little pub and diner. There were lots of people milling about looking at the stuff.

We then headed to Campbellford to a private aviation museum; more like a junkyard of treasures....



Sam loves climbing the ladders to see in the cockpits. The guy has a nice group of equipment; a CF 100 canuck; Tudor, Muskateer trainer; T 33; Lockeed Electra; the hill of a Canso flying boat (a PBY) and a CF5....



The old fellow who owns it all loves to see kinds enjoying the stuff.....

It was a good day; but we got tired so Sammy had to find a place to chill for a while.....



A Coupler-recliner anyone........? LOL

I'm glad to see that trespassing and reckless endangerment are still important parenting tools ;D.  You can't teach kids to respect big things that can kill them unless you let them really understand how big and pointy they are!

Exactly Lee; start them out right by learning exactly when and when not to break major laws and regulations..LOL

The yard is only active Monday; Wednesay and Friday; there is no power, nor run through - it's at the end of the line. Power is tied up 20 miles away in Peterborough. The first three or four tracks are storage tracks and the crews love to see the kids; they all eat at the station pub.

The caboose he was sitting on is a display in the park right beside the yard...cool !

Since he was about 3 he's always know to never go on the tracks at the yard without me or one of the yard crew... and he respects it... unlike the little @$#@%!@ that break all the van windows and deface thoese old beauties... grrrrrrrrr.....

Closing out 1981 we have my dads foray into HOn3.



Another view of the HOn30 layout.  A think the buildings are all paper 'cut and fold' types you used to be able to get.



And nothing says winter in MN like big savings on snow suits, moon boots, and Sorels.



In the upper right is a view of my dad's 'Minnesota Railroads' custom paints. The CNW loco in the middle is the one that got me started on my path.

 And, of course, the giant Amtrak button is ever present.

Now, I can't yet reveal my sources, but this work ties back to a RECENT thread in which Lee debates the merits of "help" and one of our resident graphics wizards then added that "help" to the sort of thing normally found on the side of reefers.  This cross links with my ongoing quest to get laser decal paper.

Now, let's see if anyone can guess . . .

Lee, looks like you had fun. Out of curiosity, did you get any measurements of that GN caboose (preferably car lenght)?

Not a whole lot for me. Went to a mini train show (2 vendors and 4 layouts) and Picked up a DRGW 50' gon, an SSW 40' hi-cube, an SSW 50' double door FMC box, a CB&Q 86' boxcar, a weathered RF&P 50' box, and a GN 50' mechanical reefer. Also picked up a package of Walther's cushion coupler pockets, a package of A-line stirrup steps, and a set of A-line center sill weights for athearn 85' flats. Total cost: 30 bucks. ;D

Also picked up the latest TRP from borders when I went to Panama City to get my brother from his Girlfriend's condo (why don't I have one ???). He was supposed to pay me $50 for the pick-up, and doing that allowed me to get a highway milage read-out on my 1990 Mustang. Over 36 mpg highway.

So what have I done this weekend none of you ask? Well, I watched both of the NASCAR races and also bought a door about 30 minutes ago, hope it still counts for the weekend update. ;D

Atlas has made what amounts to that exact caboose and lettered for GN in that scheme.

Would that have been at Uptown Station in Fort Walton Beach?  I set up my NTrak module with a friend's modules on Friday, and we ran trains all day Saturday and Sunday.  Haven't had a chance to do that in public since October.  We did set up once for a day for our own benefit.

Our next show is the Pensacola MRC show in June.
