Anyone repainted a 44T ?

not yet...I spent all the modeling time I had allocated to it trying to get the shell off

Get the shell off?  Pull up... I filed off the frame nubs so it will come easier.

I just soaked the shell in 91% alcohol. The paint is very thin and the shell is probably the same color as the paint.

To get the hand rails off I poked them out from the inside/underside with a dull blade.

"poked them out".......You did.........??????????????????? Wow....I looked at that and thought "no way in H - E - Double Hockey Sticks......."

My experience with the 44T has been that the plastic is a bit slippery, and I'd advise priming with solvent based primer.

The hardest part of the project was getting the rails & cut levers off.

I used Chris' advise to push them out from the back but used a small drill bit chucked backwards in a pin vise. Something else that seemed to help was to scrape off as much of the plastic cement from the inside first with an exacto blade. Scraping also made it easier to locate just where to push.

Stripping was done with 91%.  The paint comes right off.  This one started as a Pennsy so the shell was cast in black.
Only the orange is painted. The black part is just the bare shell and the whole thing was top coated with Polyscale satin clear.

I started with the NH paint job and went right over it with flat black.  I should have taken the lettering off as you can see it thru the paint if you look really close.  I didn't get any variation with my black when I went over the stock black and red paint.  It turned out pretty well for a basic paint job. 

I have heard horror stories about trying to get the handrails off; I just left mine attached to the shell as my paint job was pretty basic to start with.

Those are real nice REspray  jobs.
The only thing about the model is the windows.
I have not seen on up close yet, but
it looks like a piece of bubble wrap stuck in the cab.
I know that is not your fault though.  :-\
I wonder if Crystal Clear would make things better? :-\
