One for the Conrail Queens.  In admittedly poor late-in-the-day sunlight yesterday and with only with a cell phone camera in hand, I caught Norfolk Southern GP38-2 #5300 (ex-CR [exx-PC] #8111) and Class N-21 caboose #21261 idling away at the former Chrysler yard on the Northeast Corridor in Newark, Delaware:

Enjoy,
Dave

Good catches, Lenny and Dave.

I spent Saint Patricks day wandering Richmond VA with my brother. One place we stopped was Belle Isle, which offered good views of CSX's (ex C&O) James River Viaduct.

The first train we saw, heading west.

Another train appears, this one rolling east.

It heads downtown, towards the famed triple crossing.

That's one heck of a piece of flex track. Code 55?

Duuno the code, but it is variable gauge:

I'm guessing they have a machine to lift it up and put ballast under it.

A couple hours ago at St Denis:

First evening commuter way overpowered:

Ethanol train going up the old main line:

Few other freights:

This is one of CSX's hottest container trains.  Stopped for an hour and a half due to track work and heavy traffic:

Southbound MARC:

My recent trip to the fringe of coal country drove home the need for a more up to date digi camera ... gotta start shopping for one soon.

A few highlights from my adventures along the WM East Sub today.  My record remains intact, not a single moving train all day!

Here's a steel frame trestle that was slapped together in 1972 to reopen the main line near Owings Mills after Agnes did the nasty on it.  Chessie decided that temporary was plenty good for their purposes, so here it is 38 years later.

Boy, I bet Bingo Night here is a real thrill...

Quintessential Hanover Sub shot.  Just above Emory Grove.

Actual WM vintage tool sheds at Emory Grove, where the East Sub main line from Westminster and the Hanover Sub join for the trip to Baltimore.

How about some rolling stock?

I guess this is something new.  It was the only one like it I saw all day.  I'll have to see if there's any more next time I get out to Union Bridge, where the Largest Cement Mill on the Planet is...

An old favorite, and a good reference shot for Paul Graf and them guys.

Looking west at Sudbrook Lane, from this bridge:

Another nifty bridge:

In the 10+ years I've lived in Baltimore, I've yet to see a train cross the bridge over I695 on the west side. ::)

Only once for me, about 20 years ago.

And I was thrilled that one of the Chessie units was sublettered WM... Speedlettered would have been better, but by 1989, you took what you could get!

Having worked in Pikesville for the past 7 + years, I too have only caught a train on the I-695 overpass three times (once led by a GP30 slug!). The best bet is in the early afternoon hours. I have never caught the rock runner, only manifests.

Caught the tail end of a train once last year.  Never seen any since.
