Just an FYI that was just posted on the Kato site.

Let the bashin' begin, but for $50 a crack, these are great locos.http://www.katousa.com/parts-catalog/offers/MarchMadness.html

Sigh.  If only WM F unit lettering were easily available.

Oh, and cash. :-\

Don't feel bad Lee. DRGW decals are in my closet, but painting that scheme is a bearcat. And money.........................what the hell is that!

I prefer the $75 IM undec "kit" much better. The kit comes with all parts needed to make anything from an F3 to an F7 (possibly an F9 too). Several door, headlight, grill and dynamic brake options are worth the extra $25.

Are these at all DCC-friendly?  Is there a drop-in or do we need to hardwire?

As for paint schemes, some are easier than others...

I'm guessing from the pix you can only get the double headlight version.

This is your opportunity for this decade - jump on it!

For another 10 bucks you can buy one with a decorated shell if you want.  Of course I have a decorated F7 B Santa Fe unit needing a powered chassis.  Spend 10 more and sell off the shell, maybe make 3-5 dollars or go with the undec in the parts box.  A gray back F unit would be neat.  I have the decals.  Of course I am pretty sure that the Q did not have F7 B units with steam generators.

Sweet, MILW F units, here we go!  Just ordered an A-B-A set.  Like I don't have enough projects to do, then someone comes up with this.

My thoughts lean the same as Brian.  This is only a great deal if you really really need undec.

But you DON'T get a box.  And that's worth a good bit to me.

Like Brian said, for a few dollars more, you could buy a painted unit and strip it.  And you would also get a nice box to keep it in.

Modern Kato locos strip fairly well in 91% alcohol.  The Mikado sale was pretty good.  This one, not so good.
Not awful, but not great.
