Switching in Mt. Airy, MD

i was having a look around Mt. Airy, MD on maps.live.com to find a quick route to a buddies and found this:

I've never poked around in Mt Airy much  - did'nt know about that area.

Once had a doctor with an office in the old depot or nearby. You can see where the passenger station was in this view - just extend the track stubs a bit:

Yeah, I'll say - the whole building is gone in the Bird's eye!

That would be my guess is that we're looking at the original alignment that was eventually bypassed south of town by the railroad.

Just for fun I "binged" my house - the birds eye view is about a year old in this case - it has two vehicles in the driveway that I sold last year.

That would be my guess is that we're looking at the original alignment that was eventually bypassed south of town by the railroad.

the line in view is the 2nd alignment - the inclined planes now carry I-70 over Parr's Ridge.  the present (3rd-ish) alignment tunnels under Parr's Ridge and was still a helper district into the early 90's.  the planes took the line to the level of I-70 - the fill was put in much later.  much learning the B&O did.

Nice-looking modern industry southwest of town. Looks like it would be relatively easy to build.

Looking at that SW, I think it's a 1, given the "porches" fore and aft. It's tough to tell though because I can't quite see the toolbox on the front porch.
