The Ramus , Reimer , Gordons , and Byers were decals made for me by a famous former 2 years ago , I finally got back to working on vehicles , thanks you so much for those decals . The Ramus has been snapped together since this photo was taken .

The longer cars are UNS , they are warped , but there are as we type no other choices , so I will keep them . They have been unfinished for many years , and am glad that they are done .

The assortment grows , here is whats done so far .

I am in the process of finishing off many more with guard rails , bridge plates , ACF hitches , body mounts , better trailer and flatcar wheels as needed .

I was on a stretch of days off last week - so Progress was in overdrive with my Temporary Shelf layout. I got a fair chunk roughed in.

 Which went from this

 To this

Unfortunately I am at work on a four day in a row run, so no layout work until Wednesday. So I will be virtually modelling until then.

I traced the track plan of the Pine Creek Railroad yard from a satellite image, printed full-size for Z scale, onto the layout base.

The project's website is also up: http://pinecreekrailroad.net/

Those are awesome Richie.

Sweet looking shelf layout too, train1.

Originally I was planning to model both railroads/regions I love on my door layout. C&O/N&W on one side of the backdrop and ATSF's Glorieta Subdivision on the other.

But after some thought I've decided to not model the ATSF on the layout. It would just be to hard to realistically model both on such a small layout.

So the new plan!

Both sides of the backdrop will represent the area around Charlottesville VA. One side will be a predominantly scenic area while the other will be a city/town scene reminiscent of Charlottesville.

This now allows me to model two seasons! A major waffling point for me.
The scenic side will be set in late summer. The Charlottesville side will be set in March.

I have converted the the scenic side back to summer scenery...

I am also redoing much of what I've been working on. The only scene left completely intact is the bridge area.(pictured above)

I jigsawed some new plywood last night and things are coming along!

The whole scene. the red tape signifies where the backdrop will be.

Caleb,

If you're doing scenery THIS GOOD at your very young age, I can't even imagine how much better you're going to get.  You've already completely blown the Juniata Division away.  Maybe I should take up knitting! ;D

And Richie, I'm in awe at your TOFC collection.  You are a true craftsman.

Thanks Dave , but it was looking at your TOFC's that got the project going again for me . You were the inspiration Sir with this shot of your super TOFC train http://www.thevollmerfamily.com/Pennsy/Railfan/TT2.jpg

Richie:

Love the trailers - quite timely as I have been working on my fleet of van trailers lately.

With my return to work this past week and several late evenings out, I did not get a whole lot done.  On Monday evening John Walter came over and we got a grade transition problem at the top of the helix sorted out, which was holding up tracklaying onto the upper deck.  We also drilled some holes for the bus wire runs along the upper deck which was a two man job - one holding the drill and the other holding a wood block to prevent breakage on the other side of the cross-members.  I can now move forward with tracklaying and wiring along the upper deck.

I also purchased new rolls of 14 AWG wire, having largely exhausted my initial suppply in the helix, as well as barrier strips, plastic cable clamps and wood screws for the bus runs.

Also, Bill Dixon at Central Hobbies managed to solve some issues with a few of my engines which have not run since the DCC system was sent away for upgrade last summer.  My Atlas C-420 was programmed with its actual number, and several other engines were returned to active service.

This was the first oportunity to run these engines on the layout.  Here we see RS-18 No. 607, RS-10 No. 581 and RS-18 No. 613 leading a work train across the Pine River bridge:

Having crossed the bridge, the consist leans into the newly laid curve towards the helix:

After climbing the six-and-a-half turn helix, the train reaches the upper limit of operational track for the time being:

This was my first three-unit consist running on DCC power - serious fun.

From here track will be laid onto and along the upper deck.

Thats all for now.

Caleb, nice work!!!! Wow... :o

Here's the three I completed this past week.  Two for me and one for another guy.

My two:

Conrail C30-7 #6606.  Still need the signal box behind the conductors side of the cab.

GATX ex-UP SD40-2.

Done for another modeller in his custom road:

Been a busy week... :)
