What screws does everyone use to replace the crappy screws that Microtrains provides with their couplers?

If you have a local hobby shop that carries radio controlled airplanes they most likely will have both brass and stainless steel screws of the correct size - or can order them for you. That's where I have always gotten the ones I have used. They are rather expensive in small packets - I think the last ones I bought were a couple of bucks for 12 to 15 screws.

Hob-Bits line should be available at any shop that carries Woodland Scenics... you're looking for 00-90 size in whatever length and head shape you might want to use.

I use mostly Walther's brass flathead 3/16 long 00-90 . That length is the most useful for me and I body mount almost everything . I think only Walther's has that length .

I keep all screws that came with MTL, so I have several, bad ones and good ones.  For some cars I used the Walthers flat head screws, e.g. for the Bowser H21 hoppers.  I keep a stock of 00-90 screws from Walthers here.

Google "minature screws" and you should get a hit on a place that specialises in hobby sized screws. I had them bookmarked... on the dead hard-drive! They offer lots of sizes, head styles (including hex heads), lengths and materials from brass to stainless. Their prices on 50 is about what Walther's and Micro-Mark charge for 15-20 packs. I personally have never had a problem with the MT screws, but there are options out there.
