Single unit spine cars

Can anyone tell me anything about the car behind the loco here?

If I recall these only had single axle wheelsets on each end.  Is this correct?  Also, didn't someone once offer these in N scale?

Thanks,
Erik

They don't show up on the "Past Products" page on the Atlas website anymore.

Because, like the prototype, they didn't run for crap. The real thing and the model wouldn't stay on the rails - too light.

I didn't want to spread rumor (i.e, Atlas still has them in stock)... and I'm also too lazy to call Hockeydork and ask.

As a coincidence, I had contact today with Atlas and learned that the Front Runners no longer are in stock.  So there must have been a run on the remaining stock in the last month or so.

But it would be interesting to learn if they would consider rerunning the model.

There was just a 6 page long thread on them over at Trainboard so maybe that helped sales along some -->Atlas Front Runner

You Da man Matt, that's why I named your donated Medusa Cement kit after you.  My new books are starting to arrive, I'm deep in research mode . . .
