Rainy Saturday Planning Ahead

Finally came up with a plan for the skinny 5x15' area I will build
in Spring. SP (FIRY) From Fresno to Famoso (now SJVR). I foot
wide shelf sections at 55" to 60" from floor with fascia and
valance done in black (shadowbox). Shop and storage to build
along one wall under layout.

I'm digging it Chuck. The only thing missing (that I see) is staging.

What's your plan for that?

I would add a simple interchange yard, maybe 2-3 tracks and a one hole engine house on the left side.  You could hire a Russian to work as the station agent... Pekop Andropov...

NOT
feeling a lot of love.  While the simple plan is good (and very protoypical) I am not finding a lot of runarounds and stub ended sidings opportunities that were in earler plans.  Really, I'm not blaring my own horn, but have you considered the 'long term operational fun' of this plan?  Visualizing the operation in my mind it seems rather bland , but I could be deaf, blind and dumb to the operation as you see it playing out...

Bear in mind that asking the a$$hat collective can result in questions/answers unanticipated...

Not sure what the question is...  I see ops being very straightforward...  Leave the interchange clockwise from the Wye, do your switch a doodles along the way, get to the long siding at the town at 7 o'clock, do your run around, and come back the way you came, switching your trailing points along the way.

For roundy roundy, you open the junction at 8 o'clock, and let her roll.

It's majesty is in its simplicity.  Will this be orange groves and produce terminals, Chuck?

Lee, that's what the SJVR does now, local job out of Fresno yard to Sanger and Exeter. All produce
and agri-shipping. JJ - I couldn't fit the Fresno Y and what is between it, unless I did it as a large
Y and built it into the layout. Radius would suck, but this is 10/86, working out of SP timetable. We
would really only run nothing longer than 50' on here with Geeps or SW's - Maybe some 35's and
40's. Fresno Yard would be to the north. AT&SF has a two track main it crosses in the industrial
area.

Fresno has 3 jobs at the present time: a 06:30 job that works the Westside and Riverdale Subdivisions.  Both subs are not worked past Ingle each day; but are worked on an "as needed" basis.  A 07:00 job works east to Sanger and returns to the Fresno Yard.  The Clovis Sub. Job begins at 20:00 and works the former Santa Fe Fresno Interurban Branch and S.P.'s Clovis Branch as far as Clovis; the balance of the branch has been removed.  The SJVR's Fresno motive  is stored at the S.P. Fresno Yard.

6 jobs originate from the Santa Fe Yard at Bakersfield.  The Santa Fe yard switcher goes on duty at 04:00 Tuesday through Saturday, in addition to switching the SJVR cars at the ATSF yard it also serves San Joaquin Petroleum, and Coast Petroleum on the Landco Sub.  At 05:00 the job that works the Buttonwillow Sub. begins duty.  The Oil Junction/Oil City job begins at 06:00 with 3 crewman.  This job also works the former S.P. Exeter Branch as far as Jovista 2 days a week.  At 15:00 hours on Sunday through Thursday the "hauler" starts to work transferring cars between the Santa Fe and Southern Pacific Yards.  In addition to its transfer work the hauler also serves some of the shippers near Bakersfield on the Buttonwillow Sub.  The Bakersfield Relief Job works Thursday through Monday spelling crews from the other jobs.

Local job approaching BNSF crossing...actually "wig wag's" on some grade crossings here
