Some photos for the flavor of the future layout, maybe?

Going through John Almeida's photos (now that we can use them on the CRHS site!), I came across this:

And realized that it has a lot of the "flavor" of what I want to do with my layout. An urban junction with a branch heading off (the Port Richmond one), an interlocking ("CP NICE") and some background action (the SEPTA Main).

This is pretty much exactly what I was thinking of for the Mount Vernon area that I'm planning.

I really like how it's in the heart of the city, but is all quite wooded looking.

Wow, that's in (what used to be) my backyard, practically. When I lived in West Trenton, I used to hang around that area quite a bit. The last shot on the page is IMO the most evocative. I agree, it would make for a nice layout setting.

I can see the North Avenue terminal looking a little like that.  Overhead wires, or at least their bones, some up close industrial buildings... lots of weeds...  The other module reminds me a lot of Woodberry where the London Fog mill backs right up to the tracks.  But you need a roof for it...



Could be pretty nice!

Tasty , but are you planning the cat and electric cars ? Those are the spice in an otherwise common suburb rail scene that those shots show . The background buildings should be fairly easy being they are beyond the ridge running rails . Another problem is the all too common and as of yet all too hard to model believably , unless your name is Lance ,  2-3 foot high grass . Those scenes are not that easy to pull off should all aspects be wanted .

As for the cat, this is Reading style cat that I suspect Ed wouldn't duplicate in B'more.  In terms of the feel, I like it a lot.  Ed's gonna need a LOT of Silflor.  I also wish there was a way to effectively model the somewhat crooked track without impacting the physical operation of the trains.  Of course, slow orders would be a perfect way to spice up ops, and in keeping with early CR!

You got to remember Ed that vegetation is all over urban areas. I like these shots, really shows the grit of North Philly, but then again I see it every day..

The cat on the Northern Central in Baltimore would be out of service and pretty much gone by Ed's 1985 time frame.  He can just build some poles with no wires and be perfectly on point.  And it only extended a short distance above North Ave, which was the site of a coach yard back in the day.
