That might be of interest to some of you guys:
2mmFS wheels using anodised aluminium axle
I have always liked this idea, but it was only a concept - now it is being used for real.
Insulation between wheels and axle is provided by layer of oxide on the axle.
Wheels are glued on.

Are they similar enough to drop into a Bachmann truck? The Farish illustration looks pretty Bachmann-y. They are all in the same stable, now right?
