X58 plans? Doors?

Does anyone know of any engineering drawings of the X58? Is there a proper sized door that matches the X58 on the market? The Con-Cor door is too short.

Hm... The door, roof and ends seem to be very close to the Atlas FGE box. I wonder If I could use that as a starting point and replace the sides.

I have faith that someone will come out with one.  I'm feeling goodness from ESM.  Think about it all the different schemes they wore.  You could also foob-up a couple LV boxcars with the X58 too.

Ah, you're right!  I was confusing the 7 post white SOO boxcars with the white LV X58s.  Indeed.  They are not foobies.  Good!  That means variations on PRR, PC, CR, and LV.  And then Lee can do "LRV" too!

I did a little digging. I have two options for roof/ends.

1. Atlas FGE box. Cast in end ladders. Plug door almost matches.
2. Atlas Precision design box. Separate end ladders makes long/short ladders an option. Proper "lip/overhang" on roof. I would need to get an FGE car for the plug door, or possibly a door from an Athearn or Red Caboose 57' reefer or maybe a Red Caboose PCF beer car. The cost of the car would be 5 times more than the FGE project.

Both kitbashes would be similar: roof and ends remain intact, sides built from sheet and strip styrene. Plug door scavenged from other models.

This won't be immediate, I am still working on the Worcester Union Station.

I take it that the MRC/Concor X58 is just too crappy to consider.

The doors are too wide.
The car is too low.
The roof is some modified Murphy contraption, not the diagonal brace as on the X59.

I wouldn't be too intimidated by the plug door from a scratchbuilding standpoint.  The nice thing about plug doors is that they can be built right onto the sides.
Take a close look at the Rail Yard Models car, it's just a few pieces of styrene and some Archer rivets along with some Phosphor Bronze or Brass wire.
That truly is the easiest part.  The correct rib spacing and alignment is the harder part.
