Good Kato News: C44-9W's

Kato has posted photos of the BNSF C44-9W's and yes they have the correct windows, AC units, etc...    I am sure something is wrong (or it wouldn't be Kato), but they look great - definite run through power idea for me...

They look gorgeous IMO, but I am a "SuperFleet" fan, so I may be biased, along with loving Kato too.

Look the model over, look at the pricepoint, and it's a "winner".

Nand W, I sold off all my various pumpkins a few years back. I just never did like looking at them, and decided that first the first time in my life, I would "backdate" my BNSF locos.

All my locos are now the red/silver warbonnet, with only two units like the Kato/BNSF. I'm happier, like the "SuperFleet" paint, and may have to consider some of these new offerings.

The first Kato release of the -9 ATSF's got me into "N" scale, and they have been road warriors...........no operational problems at all. For their age ('97's), they have held up well detail wise over the years.

I think that the -9's have been Kato's "Best Effort" in paint quality too. Close to new Atlas units, with less factory applied detail.

Darn nice loco for the price. OK, time to swing away ;D

With all due respect - Kato does a lot better job in maintaining color - from release to release - even if it starts off incorrectly...

It's Atlas that re-invents colors with every single release!   ;D

Looks pretty good.  Now if we could only convince Kato to do away with the molded-on grabirons (like the FVM GEVOs).   

Is there a sound decoder that works in these?  (not sure how well the MRC "works")

The China tooled Atlas EMD numberboards are much better (at least on the long hood and hi-nose units they are).

I'm already too Silver Warbonnet-heavy on my roster so I won't be getting this one, but I'll buy a pair of Heritage 2 BNSF units in a second.  Hopefully they'll do a little better job with the paint scheme this time.
