Modern coupler question

How do you guys modeling the modern world mount body mounted couplers for extended draft gear, cushioned underframe cars?  Obviously, if you're using truck mounted couplers than you can just get a truck with a longer shank.  What would you do for body mounts though?

3/32x3/16 k&s brass tubing with a accumate coupler that has a small bushing made from aluminum tubing, cut the brass to the length you need, drill and tap for coupler and mount to body.

Didn't someone publish an article in "N Scale Railroading" (in the last couple years) using brass tubing like that described in the previous post?  I remember the article featured a New Haven 50 boxcar, and I thought the author was Bryan Bussey, but I cannot be certain.  Thanks.

Yep, that would be it.  Someone has improved my original design, but I can't remember who at the moment.  They instead used either a fatter screw (and no tubing) or substituted plastic tubing for the aluminum.

I just got the new McHenry couplers and I'm hoping to try the square tubing with those.

Anyone know - what is a good screw size to use for the McHenry?  It looks like the pivot hole is about 0.070" diameter, perhaps a tiny bit larger.

Thanks for the replies.  One of the few N Scale Railroading mags I have is the one with Bryan's article in it.

Erik, use Evergreen or Plastruct styrene tubing instead of aluminum tubing for the centering post.  It's much easier to cut and drill.
