Weekend Update - 10/11/2009

Another week .. lets see what you built ..

Happy Turkey Day to all us Canucks... ;D

Sometimes the moon and the sun and the stars come toghether and there is "rational" reason for it......well; it did.....I was musing about a CPR HW parlor car - a 73' HW when "it" hit me - bash the thing from a Model Power coach..yes; that bland, non protottypical coach......

The windows were near right; three had to be filled and the filling went very well.... One had to be opened up into a double an that flew by.... the rework of the underside was a breeze... I had everything I needed....wow, was this working....

Then the paint - I wanted a richer, more vibrant tuscan... a few drops of this, a few of that..... wow !

It came together like no project in recent memory....

The "Dominion" consist is now at 16 cars and after the completition of two more "Grove" series sleepers, and RPO and maybe a tourist sleeper she will be a complete 21 car consist.... photogrpahing a train that big is hard in either 1:1 or 1 :160 scale... maybe I need to model Morant's Curve...LOL

Made some headway with the building supply building. It's a bash of two kits merged into one.



I might be able to finish the roof today. But that's only if a tentatively-planned family cookout is canceled.

Also wasted a lot of time trying to get a new video online. Waited 9 hours for a 6-1/2 minute widescreen HQ video to render, then another hour and a half to upload, only to find YouTube has a known bug that truncates certain file types, so the video lost the last two minutes. Not a happy camper...

Those bay windows look nice.

I built the bases to my roads with some hardboard and joint compound to fill the gaps.

Excellent image. IMO, if the cars were weathered (and maybe the bridge, too) it would be a prizewinner.

So far, nothing done on the layout. I have spent the entire long weekend repairing ceilings, and painting. Still some more painting to do tomorrow, but hopefully by tomorrow afternoon I'll get something done on the door.

Only thing I did this weekend was get wasted.Gotta love Niquil.....sucks that I had to take it cause a nasty case of Bronchitis(I was born with chronic Bronchitis.Just flares up almost every year at the first cold snap.Well,I did manage to order some injectors for my 91 F350.Been broke down for a couple years needing a full fuel system and a LOT of wiring work and ordered a set of spark plugs for my Ranger.65,000miles on factory everything except oil and filters.

I have been working on a winter scene module for my CP D&H division equipment. It is close to done, lack of a backdrop and some more pine trees have prevented better pictures but here is one from this morning:

Caleb, looks good. On the backdrop it looks like you got the haze and feel of the southeast right. I think it could be a bit hazier, but I'm a few miles of off the gulf so that might be the cause of a lot of haze. That and I haven't been near any mountains in the south in several years.

I mixed a bit of old and a bit of new. Older kato chassis with newer atlas shells:





A little bit of cutting and filling and the shell fits just right. I used some styrene superglued to the frame to make the pad for mounting kadees, then drilled the holes for some screws I had in my parts drawer.

Also installed NCE-DASRs into these engines and used LEDs for the lights.

You can say what you want about it being HO, but at least it's train related. *goes back to hammering the inside of the fenders on Mustang*
