Need your opinion on freight truck article

I am trying to determine if I should arrange the pictures by model manufacturer or prototype style. Which would you prefer?

Prototype style would be more logical.  That way if you have 2 or 3 manufacturers doing the same style, there's a direct comparison.

You could do a matrix type graph that sorts it all out by manufacturer.

yes by proto, I agree.

Another vote for proto. I would hope it includes to important bits of info for each as well -  primary span of use (as in when these cars were used on new builds) and primary type of use (maybe most are general use, but why what were the general benefits of each). Probably a lot more work though. It would be nice to know what popular trucks for each era we're missing, with at least pics of those. Matching a proto to a model is always hard when the one you want isn't there. Are you going to include cabeese trucks too?

Proto it is.

I would love to do history and info on the prototype, but it may be too much for the scope of this article. MTL has nearly 20 styles of trucks alone. Add Athearn, Atlas, Kato, Bowser, IMRC, and a few others and I am left with dozens and dosens of pictures. I would love to add prototype photos, but do not have access to vintage photos with copywrite permission.

Back when N-Scale was part of Hundman Publishing, you could rely on their reference material for much of this, but that is gone. Don't get me wrong. I love the current state of N-Scale and the direction it has taken since Pam took over, but I miss the in-depth feel of the old mag too. This is why I attempt to get as many prototype photos in my kitbash articles.
