I sense a magazine article in the making.  This layout would be perfect for an MR cover story, if they were smart.  They don't even need to draw a track plan.

It would certainly be a slam dunk for N Scale, but it has all the ingredients of a perfect "ambassador" layout -- one that can educate the masses about the virtues of N scale.  Though there is the issue of the ground throws...

I'll second the notion for MR - they always seem short of really good N scale material, and someone besides David Popp and his NH layout would be welcome.  Plus, isn't the main door based on one of their older trackplans?

Why not both? A thin, glossy overview with lots of big pictures for MR, and a more in-depth article for N Scale, perhaps a tale of the expansion.

Meh...  I've always been turned off toward submitting to MR due to their strict photography standards and the fact that your manuscript goes into limbo.

Much more inclined to do NSR or N Scale...  Even if it means reaching a smaller audience.  Unless someone can offer a compelling reason to go MR.

Be careful with multiple simultaneous submissions. Most magazines do not like like that. You are better off to submit them one at a time. If MR accepts you'll hear fairly soon, but it may not get published for a while. NSR and N Scale are more likely to publish quickly. I have much less experience with RMC, so I can't comment on them.

If MR accepts an article but doesn't publish in a timely manner, you can contact them to see if they would object to submission to other magazines. Most of the time they don't care about NS or NSR. But they do regard RMC (and the former ML, RMJ, and  MRJ) as problematic. I have heard of people buying back material from MR that they didn't publish for several years.

I suggest that if you are doing it for money, go to the N Scale magazines first. If you want to see your layout on the cover of MR, them do them first. Don't laugh, I have had several people tell me during layout photo shoots that a MR cover shot is their sole objective.

In any case, go for it. Getting a nice check from a model RR magazine goes a long way to maintaining domestic harmony when you look for time to escape to the man cave.
