Athearn: Modern LPG tanker! Lots of nice details put their UTLX cars to shame. They are taking a breather on vehicles, choosing to use the time to retool models such as the F59. Expect more 2 level commuter cars.

Atlas: Nothing new in N to anounce just yet. Don't expect new vehicles after the Explorer for a while, they have other projects in the works.

Bachmann: Nothing new to report.

Bowser: Much of the production is moving to China. They may be working with another N scale manufacturer on 53' spine cars.

FVM: Gevo looks great! More modern freight cars in the works. If the Gevo is a success, he will work on other engines. I proposed 19,000 gal corn syrup cars and Trinity plastics hoppers.

NARC: Round hatch HS grain hoppers. I'm getting some CP cars for cement service!

Train-Cat: I spoke with Bob. I may have miss spoke in a previous post. I posted a picture of a Lone-Star auto rack stating that the rig pictured looked like the prototype for Bob's model. I meant to state that both models appear to be based on the same prototype. Bob did not reverse engineer the Lone-Star model.

My comments from Friday...I would have added some pictures but I forgot to bring the cable to download from the camera to the laptop.   ::)

Athearn - As stated they had a sample model of a a modern 33K LPG tank car; they will be doing 3 variants - they had one model in N and the other 2 in HO on display.  They are reworking the F59 to allow easy conversion of DCC & Sound.

Atlas - nothing new in N on display; Cory indicated not much new in N for the rest of the year, but next year should be very good for N.  I suggested the 89' flat in N; he said he'd like to do it.  They had the Summer catalog (July-Sep) available; aside from the July announcements already on the site, the C-420's are listed.  August has GP38/40/40-2 in a bunch of schemes, more Evans gondolas, EV cabooses and 50' flat w/ single trailer.  September has more 90 ton hoppers, TM PS-2 and TM Thrall 4750's.  Road names and numbers for most of these have already leaked onto the Internet.

Bachmann - Centennial's were on display.  They are re-tooling the C&O H4 2-6-6-2 with VC12 tender to have DCC on-board and improved pulling capacity.

BLMA - Craig was showing off his new bridges and searchlight signals (see BLMA thread).  He also indicated he had 3 additional freight cars in the works; 2 from 1960+ and one from 1990+.  The first should be announced sometime later this year, the others at about 6 month intervals thereafter.  He also said he has a number of other projects in the works that he is "really pysch'd about".

Bowser - They indicated they hadn't had much luck with N-scale, but that they would be cooperating with other manufacturers on projects.

Deluxe - Nothing new to announce.  Was showing the Doublestack car sets with containers and orphan cars.

FVM - See Chuck's thread.  Matt indicated that more cars (repaints and new models) would be coming, but that the GEVO's were taking a lot of time and effort.

Intermountain - Nothing new to announce at the show.  They had the final pre-production version of the AC12 running at the show; it looked really smooth.  They also had samples of the SD40-2W, and indicated that they would be doing other SD40-2's.  They indicated that they would also be doing the U18B (announced in HO) in N; they learned a lot of things from the HO model that they needed to go back and incorporte into the N scale tooling.

Traincat - Bob was showing off all the new toys he has been posting here, including the auto carrier.  He also mentioned he'd been down to the Hialeah autoloading facility with his camera and tape-measure, and that his next project would go well with the auto carrier.   ;D

I'm going back tomorrow; I'll see if I can find out any more info.

edit - I forgot KATO; I didn't see anything we didn't already know about, and all the reps were busy with other attendee's.  The Jet propelled RDC was kinda cool, but not what I'm looking for.

My guess is the Bach flats will be like their HO ones with the same loads . Wood deck , vert brake wheel , fishbelly sides , and 52 feet long .

The good news is that my laptop does haved a port for memory cards...

The bad news is my 5+ year old Canon PowerShot A80 uses the old Compact Flash memory cards that are anything but compact and won't fit in the port.

Aside from the GEVO's and now the LPG tank cars. Not alot too talk about. Trainfest should be MIGHTY interesting.  I could think of a bunch of other cars I would rather see Athearn do but I know a few of you have been asking for modern LPG cars and I'm glad you got'em.

If he didn't copy it, then he needs to produce the drawings and/or photos from Allied that he used.

Does it really freakin' matter? At least those who want, now have that product in N. It's not like Lonestar was planning on making an N scale version in our lifetime anyway.

To someone who knows what it's like to spend literally hundreds of hours doing actual research and design on a project... yes, it does matter.
