there are 3 Sierra Nevada Pale Ale's, 7 Heavy Seas Loose Cannon's, and countless Vitamin D Black and Tan.  then there's the cases on the shelves... plenty of malted beverage for measuring once and cutting twice

Okay, measure the room like you're going to spend a fortune on kitchen cabinets (as in down to the 1/16th) and establish your standard width.  It seems to me you once complained of lacking a workshop... If that's the case, we can build modular benchwork off-site.  I'm equipped to rip plywood down to 1x4's, and I've got a nice big workshop full of spinning blades and whirling drill bits and a great big 5'x5' maple topped workbench.  In an afternoon we could build all the frames, then ship them across the bay in a barge.

I might even move the micro fridge to the garage for the occasion.

If you have shop space available, we'll just need to schedule a day and time...  Hint:  The wife and kids are going to the beach end of July...

i have no shop.  sounds like i need to get my Eastern Shore visa and take a trip across the bridge.  i have the exact measurements - the room ain't square, like Ed's head

If we build the frames as modules, we can make field adjustments on delivery.  I'll start mucking out the workshop so there's room to maneuver.

the benchwork should be straight forward.  using plywood is the most cost effective.  the difficult part is going to be getting it from the shop to my house.  i has no pickem up truck

Mr. Brian has one.  He could also stand to have a benchwork internship now that he has the beginnings of a layout. 

And poosh come to shove, I have a minky van that can run seatless.  Next step will be to apply the room dimensions to the track plan so we can build a material list and basic module design.  Am I correct in assuming that the staging level will form a lower loop around the whole room?

i'm figuring that the bench work would be four 18" sections 5.5 feet long and two 12" sections 5.5 feet long.

4 - 5.5 feet 1x4
8 - 5.5 feet 1x4
16 - 10" 1x4
8 - 16" 1x4

i already have four 1x4's that are 8' long plus the required 10" pieces to make the 5.5' modules.  i have 8 legs as well - would just need to to make up 4 more - the 5.5 sections would be cantilevered so the duck under is plenty wide .

Brian's trip to my house to pick up the Virginia Central might have brought his pickup just that much closer to the crusher.  I don't think he likes taking long trips in it.  I sure as hell wouldn't want to break down on the Bay Bridge.

I'll be glad to help, come benchwork-building-day, if you like.  Building benchwork is one of my favorite aspects of the hobby.

What about the staging deck?

i'm not using foam boards for this project.  plywood and homasote all the way.  the staging is screwed to the benchwork and then 1"X2" risers hold up the town above.  the main line and staging grades are cookie cutter and use risers to change elevation.  two 4x8x1/2"sheets of plywood should do the trick for the subroadbed.  add in two sheets of homasote and tada!  the "waste" could be used for the future WM...
