    What is needed to change my older C44-9's to porch mounted ditch light C44-9's?

Dave, I have some of both - and I don't think it would be easy.... 

The pilot ditch lights on the old one is part of the casting that includes the cab base and the electrical cabinet on the fireman's side - this part is entirely different in the newer model and I don't think interchangable.

Maybe someone else has better ideas on this...

Ah, if only the fuel tanks were that 'easy'...

would those #603 LEDs work? or are they too big?

Very interesting!  The LEDs sure would beat trying to do anything with those plastic light guides.


I couldn't tell from the thread tho, who makes those ditch lights, or are they scratchbuilt?

in his own words: The lights on mine are scratch built. The lights are the Nano pure white.

The housings are small brass thin wall tubing with a styrene verticle support.

  Would this be similar with the SD40-2?  Steve4:  Those SD70 IC standard cabs were excellent!!

That's not a GPS dome, it's a  plastic enclosure for an array of antennas (one of which may be for a GPS system) - and it is called a radome.

There is indeed a GPS sytem onboard... it's an integral part of GE's PinPoint.

 Thanks for the kudos. I still need to build those Canadian SD40-2's. I have all the parts, just not the time.

Robbman - I don't think I said there was no GPS system on board. I said that plastic bulge is called a radome - an antenna enclosure.  A GPS antenna may or may not be under it - or located someplace else, if it's on board.

Just about everything that isn't nailed to the ground (and many things that are) has a GPS antenna on or in it somewhere today.

About 10-12 years ago, I spent most of my time at HP running around to the railroads, truckers, etc... (US and Europe) proposing solutions like Pinpoint,  BTW....
