Weekend Update 5-10-2009

It was Gondola Week here...

I started with this more or less stock Micro Trains car, complete with high rise lift kits from the factory.  The load is a rebar load I made using some stranded wire.  I modified it by completely cutting the floor out of the MT shell, and lowering it over the frame to get a more proto ride height.

I also weathered it with some acrylic washes.  To replace the floor, I used some v-groove styrene sheet from Evergreen, and used acrylic craft paints to weather it to look like beat up old wood.

I also lettered up this LBF car for my "home road" the Laurel Valley.

It's weathered lightly with an airbrush, and I added Fox Valley wheelsets.  This got a similar floor treatment to the N&W car above.

What's on your workbench?

Nice work gents - as always !

Finally finished the windows and shades on the 2200 series coach - what a job that was !

Here she is in service.....

I also finished another custom decal trailer and a CP Rail flat with rub rails....

Van Kam is a B.C. trucking firm (Vancouver -Kamloops) and can be seen to this day all over Canada.

Here she is on a flat with another friend....

So, what's next ? 8)
Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!

Just finished the last of these 3 Z scale cars (the boxcar) for a client on thursday.(shamoo)

and this one for me

I have 3 more of these to finish up.

Lee, nice to see you applying the old custom/hotrod trick of channeling the body over the frame to lower a car,I never thought of doing that to freightcars. ;D Looks good.

Got a couple of L1's in the works one I started years ago but gave up on the other one I have had for awhile and just wanted to get done.

I am doing two styles one with modern front end and one the older front end have alot of details to put on yet but they are coming out alright.

A westbound growls upgrade toward Afton on the door layout (with help from photoshop ;)).

Besides that, I'm leaving for the U.K. with my family on Monday so I'll be away from the comp' for a while.

I see the B&O between Brunswick and Sandy Hook.  A two lane road, some houses and businesses, and maybe even a C&O canal treatment on the aisle side.  A good opportunity to get some Preiser bicyclists, and some naked campers!

Well, my week was taken up with doctor and hospital visits. I now have a Prussian Junker dueling scar on my left cheek instead of a mole where someone stabbed my with a pencil in first grade.

Worse this week, I have to be at Bay Medical at 5:30 AM Tuesday for surgery to stop fluid accumulating on my right lung.  :(  If this works, then I face thyroid surgery. Alas, one pays for burning the candle at both ends earler in life.  :'(

I wish you the best of results and findings . As my Father used to say once he reached 70 or so , " You have to be tough to be old " , speaking of aches and worse . This from a guy that prided himself on never wincing or bellyaching at life's bad side .

This weekend, I cut the rails so my drop gate would function, built two more #7 turnouts, and laid some additional track in the staging yard.
