I bought 3 of the original LL Y-3's when they first came out. The first I ran on an Ntrak layout several years ago. It ran for about an hour before throwing out the crank pin of the rear set of drivers and dropping the rods and valve gear. The rear set of gears also had locked up.
As a result, the remaining 2 Y-3's had never been run.....until this past weekend. The club wanted a poster shot for our upcoming show next February, so I bought out the two locos for the shoot. I had the two double-headed with 15 coal cars.......until the rear loco, after about 30 minutes, threw the crank pin, rods, and valve gear (luckily the gears did not lock up.
Now to my problem, I understand that Walthers (from other threads on various N scale forums) will not support Life-Like products (the clear washer that goes between the main and drive rods is missing. Has anyone got a suggestion on how to keep the crank pin(s) from puling out. :'(
