GRS Searchlight signal with relay base

That's a pretty big hint there, Craig! ;D

Ed, I'm pretty sure that Sunrise has completely discontinued their (incredible) line of signals. However, if you're extremely patient, you may occasionally find one on eBay every now and then. Craig's hint might very well change this, but those Sunrise signals (the operating ones) were the gold standard for N scale searchlight signals.

IIRC, I believe the LH&R used identical signals.

Just happens that CSX is currently using them elsewhere, though I know where there are a couple still standing, signal and all along the line.

However, when I inquired about getting one from the property owner, he wasn't too thrilled about the idea.

the L&HR used the GRS signal... thanks for the heads up Craig - will i be able to get a tri-color LED in them i wonder.... hmmmmmmm?

the L&HR used an Absolute Permissive Block signal system which did not control train movement, it only added another level of safety.  all train movements were either done by timetable or Form 19 for extras.  all switches were hand thrown, there was no CTC which is a pity, i really wanted to pick up a CTC panel and repurpose it for use on a layout.

Well since you put it out there...

If you haven't gotten a Sunrise unit to look at, get one at all costs and do your best to get it as close as possible or better. They were hands down the best looking n-scale signals made.

Our Mod-U-Trak group needs a buttload of searchlight signals and it would be nice if we didn't have to make them all by hand.

I've never bought anything that was less than great from BLMA and I wouldn't expect that to change now.

I don't think anyone is saying Craig won't produce something great. There is an opportunity here and people are just offering their opinions on what they would like to see.

Signals are tough. To get realistic scale detail requires a lot of work and hand assembly. That results in a balance between what people are willing to pay vs. being able to sell enough to make it viable. There are a LOT of signals available that are oversized, sloppy and generally don't look very good. Personally I'll pay a little more for a better looking scale signal, but you have to draw the line somewhere in regards to cost. I have faith based on past projects from Craig that he'll produce something that lives up to BLMA's high standards - no worries there. The question is which prototype signal?

A little feedback from people here on what they would like to see couldn't hurt.
