They prodeuce quite alot that I have bought and will buy. I'm not gonna cry over one scheme on a boxcar. I have a couple of IHB's on order but they'll get here when they get here, I've been waiting longer for the C&O coaches and even with that, right now I got more important things to worry about.

Part of me thinks that the reason that model railroad manufacturers do this is to "pad their stats" a little with regards to dealing with their funding sources, aka the banker.  I don't think they're pushing due dates just to spite their customers, and I doubt it's as haphazard as many on the forums make it out to be. (myself included)  And it doesn't seem that communicating status about a model helps...people still bitch about it regardless.

I've complained unmercifully about the DI spine cars and they've been in the works for 8 years now.  But honestly there's probably a good reason for it...at least that's what I keep telling myself.

Now that's funny . . . Intermountain being nimble when it comes to financing. Thanks for the laugh Doug, I needed it.

Perhaps I wasn't thinking so much "nimble" as I was "survival".  Besides, I cannot think of another sane reason that manufacturers would keep stuffing crap in the pipeline, especially for models they've cornered the market on.  (and this isn't just Intermountain I'm talking about here.)

My biggest complaint is not so much with the waiting or delays, but the problem of dicouraging other manufacturers from getting in the game, as is the case with the DI spine cars.  Who's gonna start developing a car to go head-to-head with DI with the risk that DI might actually get their crap together? (I know, Answer: Kato)

  I feel you pain as well as my own. IM has produced some nice models yes the first ones were the PFE reefer and soon after the 40 ft boxcar. They came out as kits first with the readi runs abit later, I found the box car kits easer than the reefers to build, maybe I was getting more expierence, then the demand for kits dropped off now every ones wants built ready to rolls, or atleast some of us do. I even purchased one of the PS Covered Hopper kits to see how it would assemble,but never built it when assembled hit the dealers shortly after, same for the composit gon with real wood parts. I too have had some of the Rio Grande Corrugated coaches on back order for eons at Tex-N-Rails, they were also going to do Seaboard version,good thing I didn't order those. I ordered the SP Shasta Daylight cars from BLW, they were released, but the paint color was all wrong,so Pete suggested I wait till a rerun with correct paint. Well that still hasn't happened and their paint is still wrong, I ordered a Cotton Belt FP-7 they had only one, it was Daylight Painted with a silver roof,very unique. Well the Daylight Red color on this model is clearly a pale Salmon Pink-like color. Hey atleast they got the orange right. Now the passenger cars Des Plains Hobbies assembled kits are being re run with interriors and lights. Does that mean we will finally get the Rio Grande/C&O coach or daylight cars painted correctly? The do make one cool item though  on their site, an almost custom hand assembled large size model of the International Space Station which as and amature astronmer and SI FI buff really interests me,even saw one as a display at my local planetarium.   Nate Goodman (Nato).

I know what you mean, over 370 IM covered hoppers here... 225 cylindricals alone. Appearantly, you can never have too many of them.

I have some QC issues with some of the cars, but nothing that as really PO'ed me to the point of shunning them. Maybe I put up with too much, but I really like their cars. And as I've previously stated that being a Canadian modeler, I have no option for the cylindricals, given the cost of the NARC cars (which I'm sure will be very nice).

Clear silicone sealant applied very sparingly with a toothpick works well for this too. It is flexible when dry and less prone to popping off with handling/changes in temp.
