Guys,

Given the abundance of SPFs on this board, I figure someone can help me out.  Ed K can attest to my going in major circles about the future of my layout and whether it will be an expansion or replacement...  but one of the things I'm fairly sure of is that I want to replace the LewisPORT station on the current layout with the real LewisTOWN Jct station.

Can anyone point me to a set of plans for this station?  I could probably "wing it" from photos.  I once scaled up a set of plans from photos of the RGS Lizard Head bunkhouse in HO from photos...  that came to within a foot of Mike Blazek's plans when I later got the RGS Story series of books.  Those were my "bad old days" of HOn3...

I would like to do the station as it looks now.  I understand that makes it a foobie for 1956 and 1980 (my two eras) but gosh darn it, it looks so nice now.  The PRRT&HS guys have done a wonderful job.

I'm looking for plans, but I'm also curious...  Has anyone done this in N scale?  If so, can you recommend some commercial castings for windows and doors?

Oh, yeah, that's an AWESOME book.  I have it.  There are TONS of great photos of the station from every era of its life, along with shots of the surroundings and track diagrams.  Unfortunately, there are no station plans in the book.

But like I said, I could probably get close just based on those photos.  Doubtless I'll need to compromise a little based on what windows and doors I can find.

I don't know urgent your need is, but I will be taking actual measurements for an HO scale model.

Floor plans are available for various eras, though I don't have them YET.

The tower was off the roof for both 1956 and 1980, which I think you know. As best as I have been able to determine, it was removed in 1955. Prior photos show the tower with a very shabby roof. 1956 photos show no tower and a smooth roof. I've surmised that the roof was redone and the tower was removed since its function was remoted to nearby LEWIS tower back in the 19-teens.

Jerry,

I know about the tower, but it really makes the station even though it's clearly not part of either of my eras.  Neither would be its current beautiful paint scheme (50s shots look like dingy raw brick).  But I'm willing to live with the anachronism because I think it looks so much better now!

It takes lots of every day use to really learn it, but then it usually doesn't take long to do individual drawings (my Morhead City drawings took a day, including measurements).

i have a copy of Solidworks, i used to use it all the time, now, never.  now i have no clue how to use it.  weird.

what are you talking about, he just needs to cover it in keystones for you to recognize it.

This is the train order office at Shaw, shown before the "insul-brick" was applied.


I had fun building the railroad track out of slabs...  Unfortunately, when my computer crashed over the summer, I lost all my train stuff libraries.  I'll have to go back and build them all again.
