A C50-9? How about some PC&F boxcars to go with them?

Please correct me if I am wrong.

At Springfield, I asked an Athearn rep if they would be re-releasing the old Roundhouse 50' waffle side boxcars. He told me there was no such real prototype for that car and they wouldn't be doing it.

When I was going in and later out of the show, there was a CSX 50' waffle side boxcar right there in the yard. Is not the Round house car the same type car that CSX and its predecessors have/had?

I wonder if that's the reason they've been sitting on this tooling for 5 years:

Re: CSX wafflesides...

I am almost 100% sure you are right. Could they be confusing it for the MDC "Hi Side Boxcar" which I am equally certain has no prototype?

I have no idea if anyone else owned the CSX-type car, but it seems hard to believe no one did. I do know it is not even close to a lot of other wafflesides - ie. the DRGW and SOU ones.

I'm pretty certain that the CNW had the exact car that MDC did.

The Athearn rep kept telling me it was a high cube and I know the waffle side car I am talking about is not.

So, other than an outpouring of bay window cabooses, not much to report? The economy's down, and everyone makes bay window cabooses. This hobby may be in trouble.

No gots da camera.

Some more info though. Expect the Athearn SP C-50-9 to be much better looking than the MTL C-50-9 (Yes, They are the VERY SAME caboose class). Charlie Vlk was pointing out to me the new plastics and molding process used by Athearn on the -9 and the new Airslide.

But, the MTL will ship in May 09 while the Athearn will not ship until Jan 2010. MTL is going to fast step the -9 releases to get the most of the head start. Straight from Eric. Also, they are looking into a white SP Police version for release. After the couple of SP schemes, expect Foobie-ville.

And Everyone left my C-40-6 alone so I would have a SP Bay window to sell !!

Looks like Atlas announced some interesting releases in HO that may filter down to N eventually - NRE Genset (Trainman) and bulkhead flats.

Wow, MTL and Athearn. This is absolutely ********.

I saw the Athearn prototype last month, MTL really will have to do something special to outdo it and its etched parts. I'm guessing this is going to be, as others have said, JUST like the FT thing all over again.

You'd think they'd have learned.
