Spanning the globe for N scale goodness, I stumbled across this site a few doors down from mine on the N Scale Web Ring.  He needs to post a better track plan, but the layout work is outstanding.

Well of course it's a good track plan - the main layout is the Atlantic Longhaul Lines from the Atlas Nine N Scale Layouts book, so it was designed by none other than John Armstrong.

Shame, shame , shame, two sections of unsupported track. How the hell did they spike the ties to the rail with no supports underneath? I don't care how nicely certain other segments are done, that bridge completely spoils any other effects. How hard is it to make some girders for a deck girder span?

I was looking at overall effect.... Yes, the bridge needs help.  But since Paul is looking in, I'll say that those Atlas bridge components are just as nice now as they were 40 years ago!

I've seen worse. Needs work as noted (washout on bridge!). Other blantat detractions here are the slots on the piers and the tunnel "portal" (the area above the tunnel certainly makes ya wonder why there isn't a "cut" here).

Enough about the bridge... I would compare this shot with Dave Vollmer's work.  Dave's got his c80 rail and gigundo bulbs in his signals, and this shot has the big clunky ground throws, but overall, the effect is very good.




This one reminds me of a shot on Gregg's 2x4.


And this is what Ed should shoot for on the yard/industry side of his layout.

Ther IS a lot to like there. I was looking at that yard myself, and those scenes you posted are quite good. That top one is very "un modelrailroady". I like it.

It could well be that the bridgeless spot is awaiting a proper bridge. Given that it is curved, it is a difficult fit. The owner would probably rather have trains running than await perfection. Thanks for the post, Lee. Good layout overall.

we demand perfection at all times.

of course i'm kidding, sure there is some serious effort and good stuff, but our Mr. Weather is will beyond this stage of development in the hobby.  i wish i had even this level of something.  i need to get that wall down to open my space for a good L&HR, or was it MILW, or PRR, or ??? layout.
