Weekend Update 11-2-2008

Its' weekend update time. Not much for me. I spent the weekend repainting a bunch of 3 bay hoppers black, and decaling with Chessie logo

Another week of trailers... I have been in the planning stages of the "Puddington Valley Growers Cooperative" - a large fruit and veggie packing plant and wanted to have some "local" farmers and merchant's vehicles ready for the new building. I created some graphics for some "foobie farmers" namded after freinds and the like.....



Named for one of our sales managers that seems to spend a lot of time at apple growers.....usually on a complaint (snicker)



Sammy's grandma has finally made it onto the layout... "Granny Nancy".....



There really is a South Alder Farms in B.C.... I "lifted" their logo (Sorry !)



I remember seeing "display trailers" in the interior when I lived there - some farms would dress up old trailers for marketing use so I "borrowed" a classic apple pack logo and decided that they needed a display trailer... "Big Chief brand"......



Finished another BCR van - this one's a heater van - keep the fruit from freezing when it has to travel north.........

No more trailers this week........ (sigh)

No modeling this weekend but I did get to the Transporation Expo show at the Montgomery Country Fairgrounds in MD.  Mostly paper (timetables, etc) in the main building but the smaller building did have model railroad stuff.  One vendor had the Kato Broadway Limited basic set running behind a GG1.  If I didn't have one on order I would have bought one right there and then.  The train in beautiful and can take fairly sharp curves.  For those who have ordered it, You won't be dissapointed.  The CSX (ex B&O) tracks are right behind the buildings and I got a few shots of the Eastbound Cap and a freight which I'll post on Proto Photo on Thursday.

Lighting wasn't very good inside the building and I only had a telephone lens but here's a photo.  AT&SF Super Chief on the inner loop, SP Daylight on the middle and PRR Broadway Limited on the outer loop.

Pud, those trailer graphics are outstanding.  Just checked out your "Cape" project over at SRO, too... Nice stuff.
Richie, amazing what you can do with junk box spoils... those gons look great!
David, I'm sure somewhere there's a need for T scale, but so far I think it only exists for the amusement of evil geniuses, such as yourself.

Not much for me this week.  Just weeding through more stuff to see what I might be able to wring a few bucks out of!

Thanks for sharing the photos from the CRHS Convention.  It looks like everyone enjoyed themselves.  I am only two hours from Altoona, but I was not able to attend.  Work and family are my excuse.  I usually make a trip up to the Altoona area in the fall for photos, but I haven't been able to manage that this year either.  I used to make the trip to Hollidaysburg and Altoona four to six times a year back in the Conrail days.  Then came 9/11, and an NS employee flipped out on me for driving down the ramp to the Rose Yard Office.  (Stupid idea in hindsight.)  That was November 2001, and I have only gone back maybe a dozen times since.  When NS closed the Hollidaysburg Car Shops (two seconds after Bud Shuster retired!), I did not have a strong desire or reason to visit the area any more.  NS bores me to tears, and I am sick of double stack trains and C40-9W's.  It would have been good to meet some of the CRHS members, but it was not to be.  Life sure is different with a six month old.  But I digress...

Working on a North Western Lines Magazine inspired C&NW VO1000m.  It's a pretty good project to try out some bashing techniques.  One part Atlas VO1000, one part LL SW900 and the rest styrene.

The sil will be off the VO but it's need full length hand rails so the SW cast rails have to go.  The front gets moved quite a ways back from where the VO was so it needs to be filled which pretty much means I'll have to lose the tread on the walkway.

I don't know the odds of me finishing it, but I've been learning a lot.

In other news the Z layout met the public for the first time yesterday and the MTL GP35 ran for five hours straight without a single hiccup.  ;D

Been working on the CSX north mountain sub side of my layout.

This is a bridge over over a road scene like one that I saw near Waynesboro VA.
