My money is overcommitted anyway with the C40's and the SD70ACE's.

It looks like an HO model, and the description is surely HO - but yes, Atlas has done this exact car in "N".

I hate to say this, but Model Railroader is really worthless when almost all of us knew more about the forthcoming releases and are able to easily spot their typos.

Also note they are missing the big N-scale announcements - the C40-8W, the Walthers steamer, and the bus.

I mean what is the POINT of having WRITERS and being a MAGAZINE when you don't get it even half right.

The steamer isn't really news except that they have delayed delivery due to QC issues.

Thing is, there are a lot of modelers out there who do not have Internet access, so periodicals are all they have. What's more frustrating than the time lag is the poor quality of the information, and those who are not online have no way of finding out what's accurate or not.

In my experience, even periodicals w/websites are not always the fastest or most accurate. BESIDES, remember, they generally update off of press releases on a set date....sooooo even then there is a delay.

That's very true, but in my experiance at the LHS and clubs, I have that most generally get the info well before they read about it. Seeing it in the mags OR when the info sheets are displayed at the shop helps validate or repudiate what they have heard.

Keep in mind that MR can't just read-and-relay EVERYTHING that gets "announced" on the Internet.  I'm sure they have protocols involved in making product announcements to ensure QUALITY of information.  (granted, they *possibly* bungled up the online Con-Cor announcement in this case....in general MR does post accurate info in their printed formats.)  This is kinda along the lines of Atlas' policies about announcements on their forums.  It's easy to go to shows and then jump on the Internet and report what you saw--or think you saw--but MR cannot simply cut-and-paste the rumor mill into their publications.  I'm sure they require at a minimum some official announcement from the manufacturer.

To put it in perspective, ask yourself the next time you post a "scoop" about a product: "do I have enough confidence in the validity of this information to bet my job on it?".
