Oh man, am I going to be in trouble.  Well, I made it to the Timonium show yesterday and got a heck of a deal on an Atlas GP7.  However, this is what I got, with apologies to Lee:


For the price, I just couldn't say no, and I already had the caboose as a stand-in for the lack of C&O cabooses until Atlas brings out the N scale Magor caboose.  I figure that if Dave Vollmer can model Conrail, then it's not so bad to run an occasional locomotive in Chessie System paint on my layout.  Right?

In CSX parlance, I'm thinking of naming the locomotive the "Spirit of Lee Weldon."  Hopefully, that honor is not posthumously after the aneurysm.

Has anyone seen the old TV show "In The Heat of the Night".  Several episodes show Chessie (ex WM) jeeps and other older power.

That's because the show was largely filmed in Covington and Social Circle Georgia on the Great Walton Railroad. I got a picture of the unit in Covngto in '95.

Actually Chessie is too maligned. I personally like the scheme, especially after weathering.

That unit that was in Covington was Chessie 6400, formerly WM25.  That's the one that has re-emerged in its glorious black and gold heraldry and is now working the coal mines of Westernport.

Yes I suppose if you like the Chessie scheme, you'd better like it weathered.  Those rat bastards never washed anything.  But then if you liked the Chessie paint scheme, you probably still have a polyester leisure suit hanging in the closet, too...

And really, it's not just the paint scheme that makes me nauseous, it's the whole idea of Chessie....  Blecch! :-X

In case you missed it the latest edition of Railpace has an article on rebuilding and repainting/decaling that unit.  Everything done the old fashion way.

why just this very same weekend....
I got an un-decorated Atlas gp-9 off the white elephant table.

You can use it for chessie decal practice.

I sure wish it had come with its couplers!
anyone want to know how dave financed his new purchase?

I like the Chessie System myself, not the favorite, but definitely in the top 10 in my book.

Yeah, the Chessie scheme was definitely a product of the seventies. I always wondered what the person that thought it up was on at the time  :P .

Not a girl Lee.... some 30-something railway executive after wearing a 100% polyester leisure suit and puffy pink shirt on an all weekend bender at Studio 54, while coming down from a ill-begotten mixture of Brown Cows; Toledo Window Box specials and bathroom betty Coke (not the kind in a bottle)...That's when you think up the Chessie colours and livery.....can't be any other way..........LOL

PS: Bet the same guy sepnt 26 days on BC hash; cheap merlot  and twinkies in 1968 and came back from Salt Spring Island with the Multi Mark... just gotta be............. LOL !
