"Loon" tungsten putty

Since I live in a fishing town I thought I'd have no problem finding this item in one of the two local tackle stores, but neither had ever heard of it.

There are Bass Pro Shops at Panama City Beach (Pier Park) and Sandestin, think they'd stock it?? Want to try it out.

Try this link (below) to "wutty". It is a tungsten putty that is quite good. I bought four "balls" of the stuff about 5 months ago and intend to get some more soon. Their scale is also first rate for the money. Measures in hundredths of a gram and calibrates and zeroes quite well. Shipping took about a week. Communication was a little slow at first (couple days of silence), but when the lady finally got back to me she was both pleasant and had the answers to my questions - and the stuff shipped the next day after we spoke.

Keep in mind tungsten putty has a 7 g/cm min. density
Regular lead is 11.34 g/cm
Solid Tungsten is 19.25 g/cm

The putty may be handy, but lead is heavier.

Tungsten "shot", available for golf supply places like www.Golfsmith.com glued in place with epoxy or super-glue and "kicker" comes out nearly the density of lead, in my "tests". I tried weighting the Atlas spine cars and the Con-Cor "Fuel Foilers" with lead wool first, then the tungsten shot and epoxy. Of course the tungsten shot(which are less than 1/16") came out heavier. Then the side frames of the Atlas cars wears out and you can't replace them(sigh!). The Alan Curtis kits aren't much more work than making the "Fuel Foilers" work right either(the plastic "connector" pins wear off). Live and learn. There could be places tungsten putty would be more effective, I'm sure. I'm so tired of the "lead poision" hysteria. For 5000+ years eating implements were made of lead alloys(pewter) and dishes and even pots and pans and didn't hurt anyone, suddenly it's deadly poision. Now there are "heavy metal suppliments" being hawked by "health food" places to prevent bone cancer, lukeamia, and other diseases you COULD get without trace amounts of heavy metals in your body. Of course, if you eat things that grow in the ground and drink tap water you'll get all the trace heavy metals you need. :

I didn't know there was a Bass Pro in PC.

i use self adhesive wheel weights - they are pre scored into 1/4 oz pieces, just bend and snap for the amount you desire.

i got mine from a buddy, but JC Whiney has a box of 360 strips for $30.00

There is also tungsten powder being marketed to the pinewood derby crowd. (along with very small tungsten blocks, cylinders and shot in varying sizes)  This may be more useful for getting into N scale nooks and crannies using the method that Walkercolt described, using thin CA and a kicker.

Interesting. Our local Gander mountain has it; just picked some up for a friend last week. But it IS a big store...
Plastic "pill container" on a card about the size of a GHQ pack.
Of course, the employees hadn't a clue what it was or if they had it...

Well, my wife wanted to go to Williams-Sonoma, which is also in Destin Commons, and Barnes & Noble, across the highway, as well as Silver Sands in Sandestin, so checked in the Bass Pro in Destin Commons - no Loon Tungsten Putty. Still have some A-Line lead putty, I'll use it. Or I might mail order some to try.
