Removing boxcar sides - ideas?

Hi guys,

I have 12 IM 40ft 12 panel box cars that I'm converting to a type used by SP (larger door). I was able to purchase the new sides and doors from KelNscale prior to him closing up shop.

My question is. How would you go about removing the sides cleanly? I was thinking of using my dremel on low speed with a circular saw attachment?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I think a regular cutting wheel will be easier to control.  The sawtooth disc would want to grab the plastic and throw it.

IM boxcar have a separate roof and ends. The 2 sides are held together with the floor and false ends that the detailed ends snap into. Should be a pretty easy thing to hack the sides off.

Unless you bought assembled IM cars? Then Chinese glue remover

Got access to a linisher at all Phill?

A mate with a decent wood working set-up may be able to help....watch your fingers though.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Well, tonight I took the plunge and removed one side with a circular saw. I was really impressed on how clean the cut was. What I'm really unimpressed about is the thickness of the new sides. In fact they would have to be at least double the thickness of the originals! So I've now decided to just leave well enough alone and build the IM kits without the new sides.

Body mounted couplers, reduced ride height, some extra detail and FV wheels should make for a nice string of cars. I'll also have to dig up the Tom Mann weathering articles to complete them.
