Easy, Peasy.

Wind Generators. This is the generator housing that sits atop the poles. The two generators are facing each other where the shaft for the blades are.

Ever see an entire field of them? Pretty cool to look at. Altamont pass here in California has lots of them.

I caught this heading north on 219 at Grantsville, MD.  There's a slew of these windmills on the spine of the Alleghenies through Meyersdale on up to Somerset, and probably beyond.




I like the fact that the environmental wack-o's don't like these either!  That's enough for me to support the idea!

Well, say what you will about "environmentalists..."  But I support wind and solar power.

After all, on half of the Earth is bombarded with over 1300 Watts per square meter of FREE energy every instant.  Why the heck not harness that?

Of course, that solar energy heats the planet unevenly, leading to density differences which drive the winds.  More free power.

We'd be idiots not to use it.

Oh, by the way, farmers figured this one out years ago!!!

You think there loaded on some sort of specialized car?  I don't see any tie downs.  Quite the illusion with the CR car.

Jason, they are usually bolted from the inside to a plate attached to the flat car. Kind of a captive service out & back to the factory. The fiberglass case would not hold the forces of the massive gearbox & generator inside. So they use the very thing designed to hold the assembly when installed, the mounting ring on the base.

So is it a specialty car or just like an 89' flat (at least 70') with attachments on the deck?

They could be.  You can make out multiple axels plus here another shot from the same area but with a different load.
