The new Bachmann N&W J 4-8-4 DCC ready.

How easy is it to install a decoder? Which decoder is best?

Thanks.

Bobcat,
I installed a DZ-123 in the J 4-8-4. It is fairly easy installation. Being a tender mount, remove the jumpers and solder the wires point to point. Just follow the Bachmann directions, wire 1 to pin 1,2 to pin 2 etc.etc.

Thanks Ken, I was begining to think nobody on this board purchased a N&W J.

You know, because nobody here models the Norfolk & Western, just the North & Western. ;D

I couldn't answer due to the way this model runs on DC.  I run both power schemes, but have locomotives that are better suited to one or the other.  The spectrum J is such a nice locomotive running wise, that I did not feel the need to convert it.  No matter the work involved, this would be a nice DCC runner too.

If I had felt the need, I would have had to convert a bunch of class Y3's too.
