BN Cabeese?

Since I'm returning to the hobby I want to include detailing and possibly some loco bashing to expand my modeling.  I'm looking for an accurate BN caboose to try my detailing skills on.  Could anyone recomend a good place to start?  Thanks

Atlas has done a BN model of both their extended vision and standard cupola cabooses that look pretty close to the BN prototypes.  I've thought about modernizing one of these models myself (plating over the windows, adding graffiti, etc.).

Athabasca Shops Made brass car sides for the Atlas EV Caboose to make a accurate BN Caboose.
He doesn't have it on his website anymore but it might be worthwhile contacting him to see if he has a couple laying around....

BN 10255 photo was in Chicago on 08/13/84 by Dennis Schmidt (all according to the fallen flags site).  That Ma & Pa car caught my eye too.

As I typed the number (10255) I thought something seemed awfully familiar about it.  I double-checked my photo collection and figured out why.  In a weird dyslexic kind of coincidence, here are a couple of photos of BN extended vision cab 10522.

This caboose is at the Heart of Dixie RR Museum in Calera, AL and got a new paintjob in 2004 based on proto photos of its BN caboose class.  The before one shows test patches of the green and yellow that were ultimately used on the paint job.





It was very grungy and did have the plated-over windows prior to all this.  These photos don't show them in great detail, but I especially like the police squad car-style spotlights on the ends of the caboose.  They had a switch and handle inside so that the conductor or brakeman could, I suppose, sit inside on a rainy night and shine them as needed.

BN accummulated a wide variety of cabooses (including some that were wood) from the various lines that were absorbed into the company.  While not that many of the Frisco cabs got Cascade green, a large number of others did... hope the pix help to inspire!!!

Thanks for all the info posted, I'll try to put it to good use.  I blew an opportunity yesterday during a road trip to get a good look at a cab on what I believe was a local.  It was lead by 3 gp's, ATSF,Heritage 1, and a green & black unit. They were pulling a decent string of what appeared to be alcohol tankers.  No time to chase and no camera...go figure.

Outside of the Atlas offerings which are quite nice, there's been some discussion on the nburlingtonroute Yahoo group about doing a CB&Q NE10 caboose, 25 of which made it to BN and into the 80's.  Check out the group or contact me if you are interested.
