It was a very productive day yesterday as far as trains go.

First I finished decaling my CGW gondola.  Still need some finishing work on the decals and then a heavy coat of weathering.  I'll post more in my other thread.

Next would be work on the IM 60' flat.  Need to go out and get some gloss coat and hope my MS decals are still good to do a QTTX car.  I've been playing around with simulating wood decks.  I OK with this one, but the spaces between the boards really shows with a wash.  The deck is to yellowish, but I'm hoping a final weathering with gray chalk will tie everything together.

Spent some time gluing the rear axles of the Athearn Tractors to even make this shot possible.

Finally. A project I've been wanting to complete for a long time.  CGW articulated flatcars.  These are the GHQ 53' 6" flats with the stirrups removed 9to be replaced with BLMA ones, on the far ends only).  Still not exactly sure what mix of color to paint, but I'm tired of waiting.

Now I just need to buy a couple hundred dollars worth of Athearn flats.  I really with they had continued onto the 70 series and beyond.  The 60 series only went until ~'56, but There isn't much I can do about it.

Oh, yeah, can't forget about this guy.

The wreck of the old layout:
Ripped out all of my old track and structures.  Laid a temporary test track near the edge for adjusting locos, couplers, etc.  Here's what I have to work with:

Lots of good posts so far!

Here is one of the Walthers Thrall units I have been upgrading with Gold Medal and other details, and a bit of weathering (before & after):

When I get a better grip on depth of field I'll post some shots of the drawbar-coupled and articulated sets.

Cheers,
Gary

Lee, that crooked I beam support on the overpass spoils an otherwise excellent scene. Straighten that sucker up!  :o

I kinda just threw that together to take some sample shots...  I'm going to use the deeper beams to re-do the main bridge joists, the ones that are on there are too skinny.  Then I'll add some blocking to the pier make up the difference.

There's still plenty to do before the scene will be considered "complete"...

But good eye, just the same!

five scratchbuilt houses for Blue Row. The doors and windows are still in paint, along with the stone foundations. Hopefully have everything done for them this week.

Never force it; get a bigger hammer.

The only thing RR-related that happened this week was the order and arrival of the superchief radio set and a half-dozen dz-125's from www.charlestondigitaltrains.com  (best prices I could find, and came with recommendations from friends), so I'll be soldering all this week getting some steam switchers working... ;D

Cheers!

Throw junk out and start anew.  Haven't decided on my track plan yet.  Want to do some round and round but also have some swithcing.  Lee, did you notice the old 1987 WM calendar on the wall?  I'm slowly getting there.

I started my new layout a couple weeks ago but a bout of the flu put me of modeling for a while. but now I'm better I've been working on mock ups for the layout. I'll be ordering track soon.
