Atlas Trainman 50' Single Door Boxcar

I was looking on the Atlas website, and they had pre-production photos of the 50' Single Door Boxcar that are supposed to produce.  Someone on another thread posted a comment from Atlas that said they were using the ends and roof from the 50' stock car and tooling new sides.  The ends were supposed to be 4-3-1 dreadnaught ends (rooling pins), and the roof was supposed to be diagonal panel style.  This was supposed to match an ACF prototype.  The photo on the Atlas web site shows the correct ends, but it has a Pullman Standard roof!  The same type that is found on their 50' double door Trainman boxcars.  I hope they correct this, or I don't think I will be picking any up.  I had plans for one Conrail, one Penn Central, and several Pennsy.  Thanks.

Here's the pre-production piccy:

Personally I don't care as I'm not even sure if it would be correct for the roads I'm buying. At this price I'm not complaining much.

For comparison:

It might be worth bringing this up on the A-Forum. Atlas has responded in some cases to "fix" in the past.

The sides are fantastic, and I wonder if Atlas will tool up a proper ACF car in their "non-TrainMan" line.

Yeah, it's a shame to tie those sides to either one of those roofs!

"roof from the 50' stock car"

I didn't look back, but I remember it being the roofwalk from the stock car not the roof.

Never mind, it was the supposed to be the roof as well.

I wanted to add one more thing in regards to the new Trainman 50' single door boxcar.  For all you Pennsy fans, the car that this most closely resembles, an X45, had an 8' door.  I don't know why Atlas would choose to model an odd sized door like a 9' one, but you will have to decide for yourself if this warrants the car not joining your fleet.  I may have to pass, I'm not sure yet.  I don't mean to pick on Atlas since they treat the east of the Mississippi River modeler the best compared to any other manufacturer, but this is something to think about.  Thanks.

At least it isn't the standard MT 6' door that all their boxcars have. The wide door looks better. I could live with a foot wider. At least it seems like its a big door rather than having to deal with a skinny 6' door that looks just too thin.

The Micro Trains 50' single door boxcar has an 8' door.  I thought that in the 50's an eight foot door on a 50' car was the most common.  The Pennsy had a habit of putting 7' or 8' doors on 40' boxcars, which is suprising that they would not have opted for 9' doors on 50' cars.  Oh well.

I checked the N&W Equipment Guide from 1969... all the ACF 50' cars N&W had had 9' doors.

Works for me!  ;)

... as did the LV and DL&W ACF cars built in the late 50s.

I hope you guys enjoy the cars.  Didn't the Pennsy realize what they were doing to its future modelers?  Apparently not.  I hope
Atlas fixes the roof for you guys.  I would list this on the Atlas forum, but it won't let me join it.  I have tried twice, and they don't want me I suppose.  Maybe I have a bad reputation or something.
