I forget what year headlights became a requirement ... 1956?

I know some railroads adopted the practice of using them in the daytime years earlier.

Hmmm, this may make my LL 0-8-0 kitbash easier as the steam year I am modeling is 1955 (gotta see when N&W started the daytime lights)

This photo was taken in Columbus, Ohio, on August 27, 1957. Note the headlight is not illuminated and the 0-8-0 is moving a train.

About the headlight thing. Erie became EL in 1960-61 and I have some EL info as well. I don't see the EL lights on either. Doesn't mater some people just want lights some don't, I model the daytime.

You can use chrome paint or bare metal foil to make flake plastic looking lens more prototypical. Maybe over coat with some clear gloss.

Just about all the MV Lenses are on "back order" at Walthers, but I posted some sources in the links section that claim to have no problems getting them.

Here's an updated shot from tonight.  Been working on the "facelift" (the post WWII smokebox front/headlight/steam generator) as well as piping, running boards, and other details.

Exciting project, perfect transformation ... some photographs could be better: close up pictures to see details of your work ... and because its always hard to make good photographs from black locos, I recommend three PHOTOSHOP filters: set a new white point, lighten the darks, boost the contrast in the middle part. The result will be like this:

Thanks!  If I submit any of these photos to some publication I'll have to clean 'em up like that.  For now I've just been rushing to get these photos out as I go.

I'm thinking about submitting a project overview to The Keystone Modeler and their "What I've been working on" column.
