John the helix sits in a corner behind the stairway. Here's a few photos of construction. I had a hard drive crash and lost a bunch of photos of the early stages. I only single tracked it in the beginning but made so I could double track it, should have done that when I built it. Was no fun getting in there and adding the second track!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hope this helps.

This is my first time posting to Weekend Update. . .I've finally worked up the guts to post some pics of my layout.

North Western RS-3 1614 shoves a cut of boxcars into Kind Baking Company on the east side of Elgin. This is one of a handful of rail customers remaining on the North Western's Dundee Subdivision in the late 1970's.



After switching Kind Baking, 1614 heads further north up the line to Elgin Salvage and Supply, to spot an empty gondola for loading. After spotting this car, 1614 will head back to West Chicago, it's work completed for the day.



After taking these pictures, I realized that I DEFINITELY need to weather the RS-3.

John thanks for the link  I appreciate the mods  and look vary do able!

I like the 1 track idea sence haveing to deal with the three tracks hinders the design to intagrate the module into a home layout.

I had the good fortune to see MEC FAN's layout in person over the Columbus Day weekend.  It is amazing. MEC FAN, your layout just keeps getting better!  I was impressed by the smooth trackwork and construction.  Nice Job.

The modules looked very professional in the Timonium shots John.  I can't wait to see those finished.  Having the  buildings do double duty on yyour layout too is brilliant!

I am always amazed by scratchbuilding equipment, especially in such small scales.  Keep the good stuff coming!

Kevdog: nice to see someone taking a stab at some C&NW modeling.  Can't wait to see more!

MEC: question - what is the grade and radius of your helix? Did you do a tourture test to see what maximum train length could pull the grade? I'm just curious because I'm in the design phase and considering a twin helix double deck design.
