Athearn 50 foot PS-1

I just got a TS car today . I like it enough to have ordered the other one . Great walkways to boot . For all the bad they did with the paint on the mill gondola , this is pretty nice .

I have been pretty pleased with most stuff from Athearn, but the Ethanol tanks, the GSC flatcars and the SIECO boxcars were outstanding...

You know, I had THOUGHT the SIECO cars were awesome. Then I ran them. Maybe they just needed some adjustment, but in an 80 car train, they repeatedly failed.

Ride height needs to be lowered , but thats more the norm than the oddity in N . Nothing a fat mother in law can't cure .

I got my 3-pack of Procor ethanol tankers in a Chuck-pack Saturday. I was very happy until I looked at the placards, which are non-existant on my cars. They got the placard number wrong when the released the UTLX cars, and when I spoke with a rep at the Philly show, he said they would correct the flaw (the only one I could possibly find with the model) on subsequent runs, but I guess they decided to just take a step backwards and leave them off on the new cars...  :-\

I don't know about that , but those roofwalks are etched .

I'm pretty sure these are some of MDC's last tooled cars. They never could get the roofwalks to sit right though.

Yes.  Roofwalks and all...

And the nice thing is, if your era is the late 70s or so, the roofwalks pop off cleanly. 

Should put those yellow "keep off the roof" signs, though.

Ed, I know these had problems, but did you try metal wheels under them? I did and they track very well.

I think it had more to do with the screwed in bolsters. But I should try the metal wheels.

Ed, check the axels of the plastic wheels too, many I get seem to be bent so the wheels go in and out of gauge. To straighten them put them in wide noses tweezers and rotate.
