Then contact this outfit to schedule your production:

This came from a Google ad on the Trains.com website. Wonder who they produce for?

Interesting - two of the models pictured looks like the Bachmann HO Chinese DF4s.

In Australia, the HO market has exploded in the last year with at least 4 home grown business estblsihing links with Chinese manufacturers.

I know the set up cost a re huge, but I still think there's a bucketload of money to be made from just specialising in 'N' SD40-2s. I don't know a lot about the market, but US 'manufacturers' seem quite conservative in their model lines and risk taking when compared to developments in the UK and Australia.

(As an example, the Bachmann owned Grafar range is coming out with a 2-10-0, 2-6-0 and 4-6-0 (all with complicated valve gear) in 2007 - yes these are 1:148, but when loading gauge is taken into consideration, they are about the same size as US outline models.)

All power to Rolland, but I won't be mortaging my house just yet - tempting though it is.

Wes

So why can't Bachmann make a US outline 4-6-0?  >:(  I always wonder about that.  ???

That's one way of evading the licensing.

You can see some of the problems inherent in dealing with a manufacturer that doesn't 'really' speak english.  Just look at the web page, let alone the photos, and there's Engrish all over.

Just a sample from www.engrish.com, the best of the best on scrambled japanese-chinese-english translation as it tries to deal with the language barrier.

And you ever wonder how things like the ventilation ducts get lost on a SD45?

Ducks?  What ducks?  I don't see any ducks!

I didn't think it was too bad; not bad enough to cancel my contract with them  ;) .

I have seen some apalling grammatical errors on websites from native english speakers...and on model train forums as well. :o
