Hmmm…. I took another look at my E8s and am wondering if I should just glue the rear coupler on?For me, drilling and tapping would require a fixture to ensure that I get straight holes. (And complete disassembly of the mechanism to ensure I don’t end up with metal dust in unwanted places…)Jim
Right off the bat, I don't think fabricating a fixture is going to be necessary because a "perfectly" vertical hole isn't necessary.Of course, if the hole is REALLY off vertical, that could be problematic, but, a careful model builder shouldn't have a problem with a slightly off-perfectly vertical tapped hole since when the coupler box is tightened against the engine's metal chassis, or a spacer cut from a Styrene sheet, the flat surfaces will mate up since there's a bit of slop in the coupler's mounting hole and the resin is slightly flexible.I don't think gluing would be a problem if done carefully provided a gluing spot the metal on the chassis is scuffed/scratched to provide added "tooth" for the glue to adhere to. If a spacer is required to bring the coupler to its correct height, and it's thick enough, I'd consider gluing the spacer to the metal chassis with a permanent glue...5 minute epoxy being my preference, then drilling and tapping the mounting hole in the spacer...or just drilling and letting a metal screw self-tap in the soft Styrene.Kato E8/E9 B-Units are similar on one end, but have a plastic adapter on the other because the metal chassis is an A-Unit piece, with the adapter built to fit the B-Unit body. Still gonna need a spacer, but with the adapter, attachment is going to be different. Haven't studied it sufficiently yet to come to any concrete conclusion on the best way to put a body mounted N-Possible on it yet.I'll find out later today, as I'll be body mounting my first N-Possibles on Kato E8/E9 rears and B's this evening.Cheerio!Bob Gilmore
