New ScaleTrains GP30s in N (including ATSF, N&W, CR, B&O and CSXT)

Yep. Apparently EMD took a bunch of stuff back at the the end of their leases that Conrail hadn't been planning for. Therefore some 30s and 35s got a new lease on life.

One hundred GP38-2's, 7940-8039, on expiration of their 15 year leases mid 1987 per CR Cyclopedia. Word on the street was CR was pissed and stopped buying from EMD for a few years.

1. CR 7940-8039 were returned EMD on the date listed as "retired." EMD then leased the units to other railroads."

So nothing here for me, and nothing motive power wise for my 1980's Ontario modeling from ST yet.

I can see myself getting a CR GP30, because you know, Conrail, though I never actually saw one turn a wheel (saw many dead in Altoona in 1995)... the WLR in Buffalo was not the best place to catch them in 1989 apparently. But CR power routinely came into Toronto on the CP/TH&B/CR Toronto to Frontier trains CPBU/BUCP, and a GP30 slipping through isn't outlandish. I did catch CR U23B's at Agincourt in 1988 or 1989, so why not?

Chessie and B&O Blue GP30 and GP35's could be found on CP trains into Toronto for a short while in the late 1970's, but that's not my primary era and one only has just so much to spend.

I'm hoping they put out some Chessie and B&O Blue 3700 series GP40's at some point down the road... a group were on lease to CP from the mid to late 80's, and are fondly remembered by me, often sandwiched between big MLW's.

It would certainly make sense, and my wallet would sustain yet more serious damage. But, no; if so, they're keeping plans close to the vest.

When the Road Show was in St. Louis just before they released the first GP30 run, I was kidding around with Shane about his love affair with UP. He semi-seriously admitted interest in the DD35 and DDA35. This would, of course, spawn GP35s, since the GP35-DD35-DD35-GP35 demonstrator set was what kicked-off the '60s double-diesel era. Everybody would have an excuse to run the demonstrators. So there is a glimmer of hope here, from somebody in charge of the glimmer.

I asked him about the C855 trio. We shared a good laugh.

That could be dangerous.
It’s been too long waiting for an Atlas upgrade to at least the GP38-2 standards.
Slowly getting back into things, actually pre-ordered Conrail Gp-30’s this week from the announcement. Now just need PC or better yet a CR patched PC. With the CSX patch B&O, there’s hope to see more patch schemes.

Judging by their pattern, once they do the GP35 in HO scale it’ll get the shrink ray to N scale. So keep looking out for the HO scale GP35 announcement eventually.
